It's that attitude of the typical North Texas fan why we average under 20k per home game. I would be going even if we were playing Denton High.

A bowl game in the historic Cotton Bowl stadium

A game in Dallas

A beatable opponent

Direct DART rail access for fans...and Denton people (students) can get there by simply connecting to the Denton train

A service academy on the other side of the stadium

A bowl that specifically supports police and fire

 

Pretty excited

I'm glad we have a beatable opponent, but I was really hoping for the Armed Forces Bowl.  It's a way better stadium and atmosphere than Fair Park.  You don't have to worry about people stealing your tailgate stuff when you leave to go into the game.  Also, by this time next year we will have played Army 3 times in the past 13 months...

How to quickly develop a rivalry with a team that is far away and has next to nothing in common with one self. Play often and when it means something. Then again, army will want to get out of the series quick, being 0-3 in it and all ;)

A good deal for North Texas all around.  A beatable team (for TV purposes) and we'll have most all our hurt players who beat Army the first time around back. 

Will Army have their starting QB back?   HOD officials know we can bring more fans than any one school they've had in their 7 year history so I'm sure they are pleased.

That's the second time you've said that phrase. It actually could have worked out better if we had beaten UTEP and UTSA.

Proof that some of us would bitch if hung with a new rope. We are a 2 win pre season projection who some how won 5 games. Are we very good? No. At 5&7 are we lucky to be in any bowl? Yes.Yet some of us bitch because of the opponent, or the time, or the location. Give me a break. I froze my butt of at West Point 10/22, will see us play Army again 12/27, and again next season. If deserves has any thing to do with football, our fickle fans deserve the horseshit program we have had the last decade.

And for several years I was one of those "under 20k" barring a big event such as my brother's wedding but I'm not going to take a day off work and spend several hundred dollars to go to a game and watch us play against a team we'll play in less than a year. I'd watch us play against Denton high too if we did not play them every year for 6 seasons straight.

Did you go to the last HOD game and participate in any of the pre game events?  Everyone I know who did had a blast.

I think we should tone down the "beatable opponent".  If we can't force a bunch of turnovers again - not a given at all - then this could be a game we easily lose.  I hope we win, we can win, but this is far from a forgone conclusion just because we won the first game.

Awe shucks come on now......don't want to sound preachy', but we get a bowl and now some fans are getting picky?   

For what its worth, schools that are moving up the totem pole in the NCAA G-5 toward eventual P-5 don't have such picky fans.  Just sayin'...

The group I was with at the last HOD Bowl game had a total blast with all the pre-game hoopla!  The HOD officials made it a 1'st class bowl for both UNLV and UNT football teams along with the approx. 36,000 Mean Green fans who attended plus.......much of the proceeds of this game go to charities.

 HOD & UNT officials were having "UNT" put in huge letters on some of their most visible "Big D" downtown buildings which were seen by many travelers on Stemmons Freeway. 

The HOD Bowl was made to be an event and this game will be treated as such.   For me I'm making this game the unoffical 1'st game of the 2017 season because it will feature many of our future stars.  I can't wait to see their further development at this bowl game. ➡️ We should all be there to greet them.

 And as a few of you have pointed out because of this bowl invite, our recruiting class with this young, aggressive UNT coaching staff will pull in more quality recruits.  I'm sure many of those potential recruits will be at this bowl game. 

GO MEAN GREEN.........BEAT ARMY!

OKKKKK! Great publicity in the metroplex... Dallas lit green the night before the game....We are now the Ivy school of the metroplex...Playing a historic opponent with Army and the cadets....We get to practice for 3 more weeks.... On national TV.....oh WAIT the stadium seats hurt my butt! Had a blast in 2013 can't wait for a repeat! 45,000 at the game! Proud of the kids! GMG

      What is this program missing?

      Simple. UNT has never won the conference and doesn't have a signature win that captured the nation attention. No 2-10 Arkansas doesn't count. UNT also needs a Heisman Candidate to be the face of the team. It was ALMOST there with Mason Fine but it was squandered, opportunity after opportunity keep being missed. Until UNT has a marketable face of the team, actually take down P4 opponents and win the conference, the same story will keep repeating itself. UCF had Blake Bortles take them to the Fiesta Bowl and a big run followed by Milton McKenzie beating Auburn. Boise had Kellen Moore, Jared Zanbranski and others followed with wins over Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, etc. Cincinatti had a 14-0 run to the Sugar Bowl followed by back to back undefeated runs with Desmond Ridder. Houston had a great 2011 run with Case Keenum where we beat UCLA and Penn State in a January Bowl Game. In 2009 we beat #5 Oklahoma State and Texas Tech back to back. In 2015 with Greg Ward Jr, we went 13-1, beat Louisville, Vanderbilt, ranked Navy, ranked Memphis, ranked Temple in the AAC Championship and Florida State in the Peach Bowl 2016, we had Ward back and Ed Oliver and beat Top 5 Oklahoma and Top 5 Louisville on National TV.

      I’m saying after watching primarily bad North Texas football for going on 27 years, that I’m pretty confident we’re not building a championship calibre program here. I know he’s not going to be let go but I think we’re probably wasting our time and continuing to jade our fans. Would love to be wrong on this. And in the time of NIL/Transfer Portal mercenaries, I think you can make a change pretty much when you want and rebuild a roster. Again, we’re not gonna do it, but we could.
