This has been enlightening.

TU is Tulsa. t.u. is something reserved for Aggies (you'll note I said Aggies, not 'aggy' -- because I didn't got to UT). You are presumably not an Aggie. This is an amateur move.

UH fans are thin-skinned lot. This article doesn't surprise me. Also an amateur move.

You always have the best takes. Like little windows to an intellect that is generally unseen on message boards.

So you're telling me you'd take a job, then have two weeks to meet then prepare a team for a bowl that means absolutely dick-squat in the grand scheme of things? OKAY! You guys are really good at this.

I get that you didn't like the way he referenced UT, but I'm curious....do you disagree that Herman made some jerk moves?

Tell me that the next time we go 10-1 and 9-2 and don't get a bowl.

I remember when we beat the crap out of La Tech and didn't get a bowl because the Independence Bowl was obligated to invite La Tech as the Southland champion, but didn't want us to hammer them again.

Our coach leaves, we make one of the worst hiring decisions in our history and take the Freshmen coach from Nebraska.

He goes 11-11 with the best talent we've ever had and the downhill slide begins.

I'll take a bowl at 5-7 or 4-8 or anything else.  It is only a little payback for all the times it didn't work for us.

First of all that is not going to ever happen again.  And 9-3 doesn't matter if your program is going broke:  Though coach Hayden Fry left the school in 1978 with a 9–3 season, he also left it with a mounting athletics debt,[4] and the team was subsequently demoted to Division I-AA status by the NCAA.  -Rogers, James (2002). The story of North Texas Also North Texas was not in a conference at that time.  That is ancient history when it comes to FBS now.  You might as well be making decision about modern computers exclusively based on the influence typewriters have on them.  So yes if you want caution UNT from going independent any being left out of bowl games with winning seasons it is a valid argument.  However it is not a reason to chastise any Mean Green Alumni or Fan for not being excited about this game.  Cause at the end of the day it is not bowl in the classic sense of the word.  It is an exhibition rematch game between 2 mediocre teams.  And granted mediocre is a vast improvement for this team that I value but it nothing to be thrilled about to the tune of $75 per ticket.  I have a much better time at Apogee for half the cost.

So what IS "bowl" in the classic sense of the word? Because I put it in the Google machine, and cannot find what you're referring to....

Bowl games used to be exclusively for conference champions or teams that had really good seasons.  When more than half of FBS teams now go to bowl that is no longer the case.  Just like playoff stats in MLB now.  The only reason that we have 6-6 G5 teams in bowls now is because they have spaces to fill in bowl games.  Most except the top 10 bowls are glorified participation awards.

So unless we're in a top 10 bowl, we should turn it down? Okay.

Did I say that? No! If you win you should always go to a bowl game no question.  If you win your conference or even a division within your conference you should go. But going to these newly created bowl games isn't the same as going to even an Independence, Liberty, or Citrus Bowl.  If they were playing a team we haven't played this year and had at least a 7-5 record I would be right there with everyone else critiquing everyone "complaining".   That isn't the case.  This is purely about money and these student athletes aren't paid so I am not filling the pocket of bowl organizers for the right to sit in the cold to watch a meaningless rematch.  No offense to the people who want but the people who don't should not be attacked as disloyal scolded for not "understanding".
