Isn't it ironic how things work out. Bogenshutz and TG graduated together and both UNT and UTSA would have loved the package. Now, neither of them are playing. Crazy.

As alluded to in another post, Dave Barnett used the word "dismissed" and I believe "dismissal" a few times as I listened to the radio broadcast of the UTEP game when he was discussing TG and WR during an on-air conversation with Wren.  It was understated...kind of like this had already been announced, but it sounds like this was the first time those words were used publicly.  Anyway, it's a shame, but obviously the infractions must have been serious.

I am aware of the situation, but hadn't heard the coaches show or podcast. Also hadn't checked the roster in a while so not sure at what point they were removed. Just makes it a little more official and indicates the severity of the offenses.

This has been the case for a week and a half or so. 

They might be gone, but this particular thing is not a new development.

I read where the Dolphins cut a guy during practice on Wednesday this week when they learned of his arrest on Tuesday night.

The coach said that too many people put in too much time and effort to put up with guys that were not pulling the same direction as everyone else.

I have no problem with letting guys go for rules violations.  A spoonful of sewage in a barrel of wine makes the whole thing undrinkable.

Get on board or get gone.  There is no place for selfish decisions (see last year's #9 for more evidence).

Actually we never offered Bogenshutz. He wanted to come here but we never offered. Personally......it was his frame that did him in imho

I was referring to the fan base of both schools. I remember the B story, and I don't know if T was offered by Coker when he chose UNT. Either way, it's still crazy how neither guy is playing now.

Don't care as the coaches found it bad enough to dismiss them - not suspend but dismiss. I know some student conduct fall under similar disclosure rules as HIPPA and the university can get in trouble if the information comes out. If the coaches thought it was that's bad I'm not going to second guess them.

      What is this program missing?

      IMO, the main issue is fan support. We have a very loyal core group with lots of fun things such as the canon, the Model T car, the "North Texas" chant ... but that core group is too small. Previous administrations spent decades tamping down any enthusiasm for sports at UNT, leaving it an after thought for many alumni. It would be much easier to recruit and high great coaches if we had 25k at each game and a community that really backed the teams. Suppose we had beat Navy, went on the beat Army, and finished the year with 10 wins. I don't think that would move the needle much for next year. It would be very difficult to have enough winning seasons to slowly build a winning tradition. Long story, short ... winning at football just isn't important to enough students and alumni. I will agree with others that having our own Boone Pickens would be a great benefit if they could give a lot and have patience. I just don't see that person walking through the door anytime soon.

      What is this program missing?

      Simple. UNT has never won the conference and doesn't have a signature win that captured the nation attention. No 2-10 Arkansas doesn't count. UNT also needs a Heisman Candidate to be the face of the team. It was ALMOST there with Mason Fine but it was squandered, opportunity after opportunity keep being missed. Until UNT has a marketable face of the team, actually take down P4 opponents and win the conference, the same story will keep repeating itself. UCF had Blake Bortles take them to the Fiesta Bowl and a big run followed by Milton McKenzie beating Auburn. Boise had Kellen Moore, Jared Zanbranski and others followed with wins over Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, etc. Cincinatti had a 14-0 run to the Sugar Bowl followed by back to back undefeated runs with Desmond Ridder. Houston had a great 2011 run with Case Keenum where we beat UCLA and Penn State in a January Bowl Game. In 2009 we beat #5 Oklahoma State and Texas Tech back to back. In 2015 with Greg Ward Jr, we went 13-1, beat Louisville, Vanderbilt, ranked Navy, ranked Memphis, ranked Temple in the AAC Championship and Florida State in the Peach Bowl 2016, we had Ward back and Ed Oliver and beat Top 5 Oklahoma and Top 5 Louisville on National TV.

      I’m saying after watching primarily bad North Texas football for going on 27 years, that I’m pretty confident we’re not building a championship calibre program here. I know he’s not going to be let go but I think we’re probably wasting our time and continuing to jade our fans. Would love to be wrong on this. And in the time of NIL/Transfer Portal mercenaries, I think you can make a change pretty much when you want and rebuild a roster. Again, we’re not gonna do it, but we could.
