So let me get this straight.  June Jones openly courted another job.  June Jones was all but signed to that job when a snag derailed it and he was forced to stay at SMU.  SMU then turned around and offered him more money, but the well was already so tainted that it all went down hill.

Now, Chad Morris was clearly interested in the Baylor job.  Chad Morris was all but signed until a snag derailed it and he was forced to stay at SMU.  SMU then turned around and offered him more money, now everything is going to be just fine?

Is that the long and short of it?

But as I mentioned earlier......SMU can match anything Baylor offers.

They can't offer access to the CFP, which is what any great coach is going to want.

Not necessarily. UH and smug are in the same conference and UH was a preseason hype machine for a CFB playoff slot if they were to run the table. The AAC has smidgen enough respect to get in the playoff as long as they play an above average OOC schedule. WMU beat 2 P5's this year and they are getting no consideration, granted they played 1 horrible P5 team and 1 average to slightly below average P5 team. I think the media are on the AAC train even if it's predominantly for basketball. The AAC will continue to get decent TV contracts which will keep them in the limelight to heighten their chances of becoming a relevant football product. The AAC and its members need to thank their basketball programs for any and all current and future success.

Jones was a whole lot further along in the process than Morris ever got. Folks I know at Baylor say Morris was never offered and they had moved toward someone else already. And the newspaper article says the same thing.

This situation is closer to what happen when UT was courting Briles and Baylor gave him a raise to match what UT was talking about. Morris did very little and got a nice payday out of it.

Doesn't seem to be for more money but for more years (7 total) at $2 Mil a year.  Plus....they are in negotiations for more pay for their assistants.

But the bottom line is Texas A&M. As soon as A&M cans Sumlin Morris will surely apply.  He's an Aggie and he wants that job.

this was just a way to boost recruiting.  they were catching grief that he was going to bail with their commits and prospects.
