Doesn't SL have any plans on recruiting out of state? I'm going to look at the UNT committed list to see if it is limited to Texas. Surely the net that is cast is wider than Texas.

I guess your right. 11 of the 12 committed are from Texas. That's why I come on here. #learningthings

Juco's like last year.

This is about athletics, not academics.

If true I'd simply watch more NFL.  The athletics is definitely better.  I follow UNT because it is my school.  I support UNT athletes because they are students at my school.

I'm not worried about TV money or making P#. That's not happening. Wanting to be grouped with Louisiana-Lafayette and Troy because it make sense geographically is a bad idea. It's Louisiana-Lafayette and Troy for Christ's sake! You know those B1G and BigXII commercials they run touting the academics of their member schools? I don't ever want to see one where they cut from a scene of an NT student being really smart and stuff to one of a Troy student learning how to write his ABCs.

I'm really not trying to be that guy, but you know this is how we're perceived for the most part, right? You think anyone is looking at our last twenty years and going, woah, I want them to help elevate my conference? Academics is secondary to money and success in CFB just the way it is. The success of those commercials isn't because they advertise academics, it's because they have established reputations on and off the field. Oh, and because they run in front millions of viewers. Academics is a front for the money making college football machine.

You kind of proved my point. We were associated with those teams (or others like them) for much of the last 20 years. Perception is based on association. Just because you're neighbors with someone doesn't mean you have to hang out with them. If they're shitty neighbors, hang out with the people down the street that don't have a Ford up on cinder blocks in their yard.

I understand what you're saying for sure and I agree. Although, I think that without any association, if we were isolated, we're still unwanted. We competed in leagues with these bad teams and still didn't do well. Why would anyone want to elevate us, we haven't elevated ourselves. Yet.

Wrong.  Athletics is basically one of the donation recruiting arms for many universities.  School presidents put up with all the crap and the cesspool that is P5 athletics because it brings in hundreds of millions of dollars to ALL areas of a school.

^ THIS. Lets move up in the  CFB world not settle and so "oh well". I remember the sunbelt games. They drew no one and no one heard of the teams we played.
