"North Texas is here at 5-7 after getting skull drug by UTEP in their season finale.  This is the second time they have been bowling with 5 wins..."

I fully expect the casual fan to get SUPER pumped by that

Plus we will get killed in our bowl game to finish 5-8. We are already the laughing stock of football, no reason to give them more reason to ridicule us.

So if we come back and win today to finish at 6-6 we'll suddenly be a much better team?  This talk of declining the bowl invitation is pure nonsense.

If we turn down an invite, go 5-7 - People will be disinterested in UNT.

If we take the invite, go 5-8 - people will be disinterested in UNT. BUT...we get extra practice time.

If we take it and go 6-7 - People might notice us a little bit more.

In no scenario is taking it NOT a win for our boys. It's about them, not our perception. Give those kids a chance to do something for themselves so we can all benefit from the future fruits.

Does anyone here think that Tom Herman is not going to take the Texas job because he was disappointed in losing to Memphis....SMU. and Navy?

Completely different scenario.  He's taking a dead end job based on the last two years of success...and his Houston team DID win more than 6.

And '01 was different because we were conference champs

I think the issue is not North Texas, but the fact we live in a society where everyone gets rewarded. Way toooo many bowl games.. at what point does it stop ? 4 wins earn you a biRth... 3 ? Hell , some schools make the Texas state football playoffs at 1-9!!! I don't like it , but I will cheer my ass no matter what bowl we land in

I've driven to Tennessee to watch us get killed by Vanderbilt, I've listen to the dueling banjos come out of the woods near Jonesboro, I've seen the glory that is the Kibbie Dome.  I guess if this team qualifies for a bowl via NCAA rules I'll go seem them there.

And with all seriousness you are a great alum & fan with keen insight & candor.

If this team loses to UTEP they should turn down any bowl invite.  This is not a post-season caliber defense (or offense for that matter).

Uh uh what happens if we win?

Has more to do with money than handing out trophies but you're right about HS playoffs.  That's absurd.

Damn right. I'll be watching it, in chat complaining, and grateful for yet another reason to get wasted and watch my team. Sure, they may be awful sometimes (most of the time). but they are MY awful team.

Nope. Don't celebrate sub-mediocrity. Win this game or call it a season.

Ask the players

To heck with that noise.  Take the bowl game, celebrate the bowl game, use it as a recruiting tool.  This is a team that most expected to win 1 or 2 games.  5 or 6 is a huge change, and sets the stage for domination in 2017.

El Guapo is confused... You want to turn down a bowl game because ridicule might hurt your feelings?

El Guapo had no idea so many of you needed safe spaces.

Good point. I didn't take the $ part into consideration

Speaking of money....we'll lose money traveling to just about anywhere other than HOD.
