Trivia: North Texas neutral site game

As far as I know, in its football history North Texas has only scheduled one neutral site game that was designed to be at a midway point between the two schools.

Who, where, and why?

*hint, it was not in the DFW Metroplex

Wrong, but good guess. the independence bowl is only an hour from La tech and is occasionally used to host their home games.

The opponent was Texas Western (now UTEP)

The game was played september 20, 1952 in Odessa's new Broncho Stadium, later renamed W T Barrett Stadium. The site was selected because it was a suitable stadium located roughly midway between Denton and El Paso.

North Texas was scheduled to host the game at home but the old stadium on campus was already being demolished and the new Eagle Stadium (later named Fouts Field) was still being completed.
