Qb is a particularly tough job at NT right now.  The offensive line who looked good Saturday, but has been very suspect for most of the year and a sub-par receiving corp for this offense makes QB play very difficult.

Under those circumstances, I am satisfied with either QB's performance at this point.   The fact that Fine survived as long as he did without an game ending injury was close to a miracle.  Morris played his role of backup without any playing time from the second game till Fine's injury without any apparent disruption was laudable.

Fine's best plays were with his feet not his arm.   Morris is close to a statue back there, but definitely has the better arm.  Either QB should be good enough to beat UTEP, but neither good enough to carry the team and win games that NT should not win.

Good post.  I say start Morris, but if the oline isn't blocking well for him and he's struggling or getting hit on every play then you give Fine a chance.  The oline played their best game of the year in pass  protection on Saturday and Morris looked good as a result.  If they keep that up then either QB will benefit.

The thing you most always noticed about Darrell Royal's QB's at UT is they were not flashy but rather game management QB's.  Remember when UT had a QB shortage & so Alan Lowery was moved from DB to QB & how that seemed to work out?

Can't ever remember when DKR's UT ever recruited the prototypical QB that would ever go to the NFL.  I'm sure being at UT he could have recruited who he wanted but that seemed to not be the Royal M.O.

* The last QB North Texas recruited that ever played in the NFL was Steve Ramsey of the Mean Joe era so, no, we haven't exactly been QB U. in Denton.

Get the right combo of an OL along with receivers who can separate from DB's as well as with a DKR'esque kind of college QB who can manage a game & you can win a helluva' bunch of games.  UT sure did without even one Royal-coached Texas Longhorn QB that ever played or started in the NFL.
