actually he's from rural, upstate New York...Oneonta...a largely farming community of around 13,000. 

definitely a place far more country than, say, Sugar Land, TX.

Just checked wikipedia - you're right!  I must have heard he was from NJ before Al Gore created the internet.  OK, that seals Jerry Jeff's country credibility.

Oneonta... never been there, but I had at least one HS friend (I grew up in Stony Brook) who went to the SUNY college there after not getting accepted to Binghamton.  Yes, upstate NY is VERY country, and beautiful.  Ever go to the NY State Fair in Syracuse?
