I have never before seen a game like I saw tonight.  I know every young man out there on that field tonight for both teams wants to win.  BUT MY GOODNESS

Seriously, I have never witnessed two teams desperately try to lose a game.  The dumbest mistakes on both sides of the ball for each team.  

Somebody hit the nail on the head talking about how this team is lacking leadership.  I also think this team is lacking mental toughness.  I can not understand how in week 10 we pick up so many illegal formation penalties.  Thats completely un called for.  This is not Junior Varsity football dangit.  You have been running this offense for 9 weeks, now all of a sudden we cant line up correctly??

While I am on that note I love coach Perry and all but when USM took that safety and lined up for the kickoff we only had 10 players on the field.  James Gray needs to be fired from returning kicks.  Seriously, letting the kickoff bounce instead of running up and catching the ball??? HELLO (PEE WEE football players know thats a live ball)  The same with our punt returners.  Your job is to run up and save the valuable field position not let it bounce around like a ticking time bomb that could bounce off one of our blockers and give the ball right back!! Then Flusche not calling fair catch and getting ROCKED.  Thankful he didn't fumble.  Smiley not calling fair catch in a tied up ball game with people barreling down on him.   All of these mistakes are in the special teams category.

 

Very very hard game to watch tonight.  I am super excited our boys stayed in there tonight and battled till the very end!

Did you see the game we played against UTSA last year, it was much much did I say much worse. Not even close. I think we struggled tonight  but there were times we were functioning especially on defense and at times on offense. Just in consistent, hold on to the ball.    Last year when we beat UTSA it was sloppier and I did not feel like it was not really a win just dumb luck. Tonight we could have scored again when we locked it up.

Not really sure how to take this! Sarcastically or Serious?  I have coached at the Varsity level for a couple of years.  I am no longer a coach but since I can remember I have been a steward of the game.  Lets just say that having the ability to rewind a football game is bad news for people wanting to watch football with me regardless of the level.  When HUDL first came out me and another coach were in charge of setting all of that up for our kids.  I had WAY too much fun with that.

Yeah I was at that game sitting beside Josiah Tauaefa and his family.  Once again 2 teams trying not to win it seemed like.

One thing I don't get.. Is why was Gray at there for KR instead of Tyler Wilson? 

and I do agree with the stupid Illegal Formations, how is this stuff still happening.. these guys should be smart enough to know these small and very simple but important rules. 

and I do agree, the PR Fumble by Smiley was the dumbest thing... Wave for it you have the lead, play smart.. and the Fluchse thing I do agree about him waving for it but I think with him being a RS Senior it was his one last time, and yes I do agree that it was very stupid reason if thats it...

The sad thing is, alot of these penalties are small, minor details that add up and hurt us all the time... We did this vs UTSA,LATech, and Rice... Rice we came back and won, thank god... but the others it was just minor mess up over and over and over... the worst was the drive that got McClain kicked out vs LAT that started out with the Unnecessary Roughness out  of bounds... then the Chad Davis taunting, then the McClain ejection..

good teams don't make these stupid little mistakes, and when they do they fix them... we apparently don't

simple things.. like these guys learning someone needs to be covering an OT ever play. and that OL have to line up correctly all of these are more mind-numbing than something like a false-start or holding... these things have to be fixed, and something that Fine and the offense guys need to go over..

I mean, uh, you've must have been a high level "coach" in order to notice these obvious deficiencies. Or at least according to @Censored by Laurie

      Well, not a lot to go on other than the attached video on Crosby. Haven't found an entire game yet. This staff has done a great job with juco pickups over the years, so I can't question this one. Curious why the lack of quality offers though. The Thomas signing is ok considering he just started his senior season in high school. He looks a legit 6-7 with a very good body build. He could develop his game more but he is not the "great" recruit as advertised. I have subscribed to NFHS for a number of years now and recently saw his playoff game against Plano East last year. He's an above average HS center (presently) on a loaded Allen team. I'm sure we signed him to play the 4 as he does not have a perimeter game. Wish we had signed DJ Hall of Plano East who is better. Kid signed with Texas State as their highest recruit ever. Never saw any UNT offers.

      What is this program missing?

      Defensive recruiting/coaches have taken a backseat to offensive recruiting/coaches. I truly hope Morris quickly figures out that defense is necessary for winning. We just can’t rely on out scoring teams. I also hope Morris starts protecting the defense with his offensive play calls. When the defense just got off the field after a long drive by the other team, don’t be so aggressive with long passes that have us turning the ball over in less than a minute. Try to burn some clock and sustain a drive allowing the defense to rest and get adjustments from coaches.

      What is this program missing?

      Its all about recruiting, it takes years for a coach to develop a consistent recruiting cycle, and Morris has only had one full year of recruiting, I do think the program is going in the right direction.
