Excellent article on the background of PJ Fleck and his meteoric rise in the college football ranks since taking over the reigns at Western Michigan and going 1-11 in his first season (2013):

He inherited a program that was 4-8 the previous year, only to take a hit in his first year on the job to instill his system, values, and get 'his type' of players engaged in the program. Tomorrow, they host ESPN College GameDay and are 10-0.

Littrell and his staff have us at 4-6 with 2 games to go in his first season off of a 1-11 year.

He proves you can turn around a program that has had a loosing record rather quickly! We as a school and alumni need to quick making the excuse we have trouble recruiting star players because of past records!

Where he has really killed it is with recruiting and transfers! This should be the expectation for UNT.

I believe in Seth , but also just as important I believe in our new school leadership!

Seth....recruit, recruit, recruit! GMG

If only Littrell could have the top recruiting class in CUSA like Fleck has consistently done at WMU.

There's a reason they're 10-0 and recruiting has a lot to do with it

I have never thought North Texas would be a tough sell if you just had the right coaches doing the selling.  I'd wager there are a few CUSA coaches who would salivate with all the selling points we have in Denton.

Listening to SL talk to his players on BTG   & almost sounding like a psychologist has me thinking we finally have the right salesman & communicator in place.

For some of us the timing of all this couldn't be any better.??

How bout the nation's 4th youngest coach in FBS, Troy State's  Neal Brown......who has Troy ranked 25th in only his 2nd year?

Not after last night's debacle but I get your point.

On another note, Arkie State is on quite the run. Too lazy to see how many winning seasons they've had in the past eight or so years.

Not really a fantastic comparison because the coach before Fleck, Bill Cubit, did take WMU to three bowl games in eight seasons, only had three losing seasons, and left with a career record there of 51-47, a .520 winning percentage.

So, Fleck wasn't exactly rebuilding.  The seniors his second squad hadn't gone through season after season of losing.

So, no...WMU was never as far down as we were, not even close.  Their worst season in the past 11 years was under Fleck.  He's doing fine there, but he inherited a program that has consistently won more than it has lost for the better part of the last two decades with a 120-113-1 record, a .514 winning percentage.

Our situation was far different.  So, what Littrell's job has been more impressive so far.  Fleck simply got a slightly derailed program back on track.  We haven't been on the track, save for three years under Darrell Dickey.

In the same time span, WMU was compiling many winning seasons under several coaches.  In fact, going back all the way to 1982, the four WMU head coaches before Fleck all compiled winning percentages of .500 or better.  You have to go back all the way to the early-to-mid 1950s to find a WMU coach whose overall record was less than .460 in winning percentage:

The Broncos have been a good program for the greater part of its existence.

Sixth winning season in a row...http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/active/a/arkansas_state/yearly_totals.php

Under four different head coaches...http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/active/a/arkansas_state/coaching_records.php

This will be their sixth season in a row to go bowling...http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/active/a/arkansas_state/bowl_history.php

Solid program up there.  It's the reason I stick them in conference realignment basket with us and prefer them as a rival to a team with no history with us, like UTSA:

True.

The Belt has been on a good run. Troy and ASU are not in easy places to get in and out of.  For them to recruit as well as they have is impressive.

Is that one of those music sound tracks that turn prude ladies into floozy-hussy women when listened to?

If so, I like those.

That's not how I would describe Bela Fleck's music.
