I've seen exactly one (1) UTSA game this year and it was this past week against UTEP (two teams who are very, very similar).   Based on this one game here's my scouting report.  Take it for what it's worth.

UTSA offense:  Watching them you'll have flash backs to the McCarney / Canales offense. They love to use use tight ends and fullbacks. The will run the ball up the middle.  They will run the ball off tackle.  Then they will play action and throw deep.  Like Canales they have no issue going three and four wide but running is what they want to do.  They also will mix in a liberal amount of "trick" plays.  In the first series against UTEP they pulled off a fake field goal for a first down then scored on a half-back jump throw at the goal line.  They also ran a few reverses and wide receiver passes.  You've got to be ready for trick plays at anytime at any place on the field.

Their offense revolves around their quarterback Sturm (he would be starting here).  He has a strong enough arm, good accuracy, and very fast.  Give him an opening and he'll run for 15 yards before you get a hand on him.  They have several backs which have enough speed to make you pay if you give them an opening.  I didn't notice anything special about any of their receivers.  The offense will go as far as their quarterback takes them and he can hurt you with the run or the pass.

UTSA defense:  It's basically a 4-3.  They will send five after the quarterback but I wouldn't call them a big blitzing team.  UTEP didn't throw deep much and I believe it's because UTSA kept their safeties back and wanted to rally to the ball after a catch.  Their freshman middle line backer (who makes cheerleaders jealous of his hair) can run sideline to sideline but UTEP beat him twice with touchdown throws to running backs on wheel routes.  UTEP also killed them with tight end crossing routes or late releases.  Maybe this will be a good week for our inside receivers.

Keys to Victory:  Contain their quarterback and you'll contain their offense.  Offensively, get the middle line backer blocked and we should be able to run.  If they want to drop back and play coverage, make them pay with shorter passes, screens, etc.  I believe we're the better team.  If we play bad we'll lose.  If we play a good game (not great) we should win comfortably.
