and if you read the article, this is them basically saying UNT will not have 6 wins

on the flip side...

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/17864836/college-football-bowl-projections-2016-season-week-9

Popeyes Bahamas Bowl

Thomas Robinson Stadium, Nassau, Bahamas
Dec. 23, 1 p.m. (ESPN)

Schlabach: Old Dominion vs. Tulsa
McMurphy: North Texas vs. Tulsa

Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl

Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas
Dec. 27, noon (ESPN)

Schlabach: Indiana vs. North Texas
McMurphy: Army vs. Louisiana Tech

cbs also says this:

The other four spots are currently filled by Cal,Northern Illinois, South Carolina and UCF, which are all expected to finish 5-7.

so our boys won't even get to 5 wins since our APR score is higher than those 4 schools

1. Duke, APR: 995
2. Northwestern, 992
3. Georgia Tech, 987
4. North Texas, 984
5. UCF, 983
6. Indiana, 979
7. Utah State, 978
8. Missouri, 978
9. Maryland, 977
10. Notre Dame, 975

So it looks more like CBS has done 0 research to prep this. I can see us winning only one more the rest of the way, but this team will win at least one more. I think we will win a few more than that, but I don't see a scenario where this team wins no more games the rest of the way.

Bowls should not even be a focus.  This team still is in the hunt for the conference championship.  WKU away is a big assignment, but if the defense keeps playing as they have and the offense gets a little better; winning the East is far from impossible.

I see 2 wins for sure left. No doubt we snag 2 wins out of nutsack, utep, and so miss. Yes, so miss. If a nutsack can drop 55 on them I think we can back our boys at home and win that game.

For homecoming, I think it will take a ton of heart, great preparation and a big home crowd willing them to success each play, but la tech could be a W as well. I think we're toast on the road at WKU. Just my opinion.

9-3 Damn It!

How dumb would it be for Tulsa and UNT to travel to the Bahamas to play.  Let's line them up in Ardmore and have a real Red River Shootout sponsored by Winstar!

I agree. They should forfeit the rights to that bowl if selected and play on their own terms. Legalities would probably present 500 different barriers, but why not try.

It would. But let me be selfish right now. It would make for a 4 or 5 day fun trip. But they would be playing in front of what? A couple thousand people?

I'm with @THOR.  I don't think they'll care about the crowd all that much unless they can get the HoD Bowl, which would basically be a home game (and most, if not all of their families/friends can make it).   Otherwise, if it's the Bahamas Bowl, they'll be out there having a great time chilling on a beach in paradise while DFW is completely locked down because of ice.

Yes, that is going to take a little extra effort and a few rule changes.

I think winning the east is impossible. As far as the west goes, I think we can win that.

I think the point is no matter what we can't win the East because we are not in the East to win.

That's kind of what I was getting at. I think that point flew over GrandGreen's head.

Yes, I  was just pointing out what some seemed to be missing. Not directed at you or anyone else just the last post is all.

We will need to beat La Tech and So Miss to win the West. We could then afford to drop 1 at WKU.

I'm a pretty optimistic fan and try to level my expectations, but I don't think we're at the division champ level yet. Next year might be a different tale.

*The given here is that nutsack and North Mexico are wins.

Good points, I like how we have SoMiss and LaTech at home. So that could give us a potential advantage. although.. We have made 50/50 of or W's on the road and at home. But I still think being home for the tougher conf. foes will help.

nUTSAck and Juarez University might be trap games. I don't think we should make those a given. UTSA are always sneaky bastards and pull the win. ex. UNT loss 2013 and UTSA's win against South Miss this year. But on paper, UNT will win those games.

One thing is for sure, I'm so excited for the 2nd half of this season! It's been to long since I've had these feelings.

Where are all the 2-10 and 3-9 naysayers now!?!?

Right here.  It's not as if it was that farfetched at the time.  There were a lot of question marks, and thankfully most have been answered quite favorably.

Plus, when you are a longtime North Texas fan, lowering expectations is an instinctive defense mechanism.
