Question about UAB

I thought they had saved their football program and was going to stay in the CUSA? Did I dream this? Anyone know what their status is? I look at their website and see no mention of football?

UAB football will return next season - 2017. They have already completed their non-conference schedule.

UAB will open the 2017 season at home on Sept. 2 against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs of the FCS. On September 9, the UAB Blazers will hit the road to take on the Ball State Cardinals. UAB returns home on September 16 to host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers; CCU will be playing the 2017 season as a new member of the Sun Belt Conference. UAB’s final non-conference game of the 2017 season is a trip to face the Florida Gators on Nov. 18.

Also beginning in 2017, UAB will play in the C-USA West Division with Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss, UTEP, and UTSA.

...their BOR royally screwed them over and try to kill various parts of their AD, until public outcry became too much to overcome.

At times it seems more like their BOR played the ultimate game of chicken and in the end got the opportunity to clean house and have a lot of donors open up their wallets. Sneaky Bastards!

They were bowl eligible and were not selected to play in one the same year they found out that the school was pulling the plug on football. Bad year for the Blazers. I wish them luck in their rebuilding. Kind of hard to un-ring the bell. They basically self imposed the death penalty on the squad!

Their BOR is not "their" BOR. They share a BOR (actually a BOT) with Alabama. Much like UTEP and UTSA share a BOR with UT... the BOR is not really on their side when it comes to athletics.

I feel like we're on the right side of ledger in regards to being in the best division, at least historically. I know Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky have been solid the last several years but outside of Marshall, there isn't a whole lot of history in the East. Southern Miss, LaTech, and Rice (going further back) have had successful programs for extended periods of time with UTEP and UAB having a few solid stretches here and there. We are set up better than ever before in terms of bringing regional rivals and teams with good name recognition to Denton year in and year out.

Little bad news for the Mean Green with UAB coming back so soon: We were on pace to play three teams from the East Division next year in Charlotte, ODU, and one of the Florida schools. Now with the divisions even again, we'll only get two. Hopefully UAB is a few steps behind everyone in their first year back and that's still a win, just something I thought I'd point out.

Really, they--their Board--just hated paying for football. They love them some UAB hoops, though...
