"– Camps would have to take place on campus or in venues used primarily for practice and games by those schools."

A good reason to schedule games at JerryWorld...we could then hold a camp there because we use it for games.  Good, central DFW location.  Dallas recruits, Fort Worth recruits, Arlington recruits.

Actually, I'm thinking more The Star in Frisco. Our branding is already all over it...

Took me a while to find it.  While JerryWorld is ridiculous because of it's 100K capacity, The Star is equally ridiculous with its 12K capacity.

Whatever the hell they call Pizza Hut park now might be ok except that it also is only about 20K

What I'm thinking is Gerald Ford Stadium.  We play there next year, so we should be able to use it for recruiting event camping thingamabops that the NCAA so dearly loves to arbitrarily regulate.

I still think there are reasons this could end up benefiting UNT when it is all said and done.

  • UNT only conducted 8 days of camps last year, so I don't see how a reduction from 30 days to 10 days is a huge negative for us.
  • If we have 8 different camps in Denton, then recruits will have 8 different opportunities to attend during a time when they might be at another camp.
  • I wonder if you are allowed to charter buses and provide transportation to the camp (doubt it).
  • This potential change does not appear to impact recruiting.  We can still go out to all the remote locations and recruit like
  • No schools in 4 of the 5 G5 conferences can conduct a camp in DFW
  • Will there be exceptions for teams like Texas/OU at the Cotton bowl or the SEC teams and Jerry World
  • The kids that attend your camp may be more likely to actually be interested
  • How many of the recruits that we ended up signing only attended a satellite camp
  • It's not like we were killing it under the old rules

So...we could sell out The Star, and almost sellout PizzaHut/Toyota/FC Dallas Stadium.

Great!

Could this be a plus for NT? We are in the metroplex. How many colleges that recruit it would not be able to have a camp in the area?

I would be a plus if high school recruits were banned from watching other college football games on TV or following along the national college scene on the Innerwebs.

Sorry, I'm talking about camps at The Star, not games.

If they give us early signing periods, I wouldn't mind losing the camps. Early signing period would be good for all G5 teams , but for teams in recruiting hotbeds, it would be an even bigger deal because it makes it possible to sign good recruits early before they blow up. If they forbid camps far away from campus but leeave local camps alone, then we hit the jackpot.

Not sure why anyone thinks this is a negative for NT?  NT's location is better situated than 90% of the competition as it relates to being close to recruits.  Not to mention anything that cuts costs favors the G5.
