Hey guys,

So for Homecoming this year, I'm bringing a family friend who has been taking the early college classes in high school and will graduate with about enough credits to come in as a junior.  He's really into music and I want to show off our vibrant music scene, but he's only 17.  What are some bars or other places in town that have great live local bands and allow in families/teens nowadays?  He will have a parent with him if that makes any difference.  @JohnWilliams, @Christopher Walker, you are of course a great resource for something like this...do you or does anybody else have any info that could help me plan his trip?

Dan's Silver Leaf is the last true venue that will allow minors accompanied by a parent or somesuch right now. The closures of Gloves and J&J's 'Ole Dirty Basement have hit hard in that regard.

But there's also a lot of great shows happening at the growler bars as well (Bearded Monk, Taps & Caps Denton, Midway Craft House), and while they are certainly alcohol-centric shops, they're definitely inclusive and family-friendly - that is, if you're okay with the occaisional expletive or such around ya. Having a hand in the booking and production of the Taps & Caps shows, I can tell you there's some great stuff planned for that Friday and Saturday of Homecoming weekend.

I've taken the kid to Dan's and Harvest House.

That's really helpful, thanks.  We're going to Greenhouse for dinner as soon as they get in Friday night and campus tour the next morning.  So we may go see bands both nights if timing is right.

Be sure to buy tickets to Dan's in advance.  They sell out pretty often.
