Dude, We Suck

Recommended Posts

I have been a fan for for so long now that I forget how it feels to be naive to the college football landscape.  MGM probably feels much like I did 23 years ago. That we are oh so close to being able to compete with the big boys.  While we may be closer to being a real program than we ever have before the chasm between us and Florida resembles the grand canyon.

We went 1-11 last year.  We have 68 scholarship players and not many of those were highly recruited.  For me I went into this game praying we did not get blown out by 60 and looking for signs of a hopeful future.  Well the score stayed respectable most of the game and man I see some competitors on this team.  Mason Fine has that IT factor in him like I have not seen around here in a long time.  Now the big question is, can SL keeps these kids playing through all the loses?  Can he keep Fine from becoming shell shocked? We shall see.

It is not so much that our guys didn't give up in this game, but the fact that Florida didn't give up either.

Agree- Florida basically played their starters the ENTIRE game.

A few other observations:

Florida had a really good defense, but very average offense.  Del Rio didn't do much.

On both sides of the ball, we looked small compared to Florida.

I would feel much better about our offense had we scored at least one touchdown.

Fine still hasn't shown me that he can win games (BC/FCS wins really don't count)- show me a win against a CUSA opponent and I will start to believe

I officially revise my season prediction to 1-11 or 2-10 at best.  Seth Littrell has chosen to throw away the season.  How the hell he expects to recruit after another one win season...?  But, he must, because he's put us squarely

Last night was not the night Fine was going to be able to show us he could beat an FBS team. He was getting swarmed immediately after the snap all night. If there were any doubts about his toughness I think that question has been answered. We will find out where our offense really stands over the next couple weeks.

Joe Montana in his prime wouldn't have made us competitive in that game last night.  And he probably wouldn't make us competitive against the better C-USA teams.

Have we reached a whole new level of lying, because the two deep doesn't list us as small against pretty much anyone. Outside of the chosen one getting the snaps of course.

Not sure what it says on paper I can only tell you what I saw on my TV.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but last year, didn't we lose by a lot more than that to a D2 team? How can anyone who watched our defense keep Florida from scoring more than 32 think that we haven't improved and we're "throwing away" the season?

30, offense gave em 2. ;)

No, we do not, and the only reason I'm replying is to say 'up yours' for starting a thread with such a title at this time. We are not in a conference that distributes megamillions to its members and we are not one of the top teams historically in such a conference. The game structure has polarized. After all these years, we SHOULD be in such a conference, but that is not the fault of the current players or coaches.  I wish we were not in an embryonic state after disastrous leadership, but given that is where we are, I am fairly astonished that the score was not like 73-6. Maybe you confused our program for one that had to replace a coach that got hired away because of the great program he built. We are the opposite and that is hard to turn. In the next few games we should start to see whether our new coaches are capable of turning it around. At least they beat on Bethune which won a lot of games last year. At this point I'm actually optimistic. And that's pretty hard to do.

So what is the record for down votes here?  Because this one is flirting with that record I would assume.  It was very clear we did not have the athletes on offense to match up with Florida's defense.   WR Thompson was the only receiver that look like he belonged on the field with Florida.   Regardless of his numbers, I watched 3 quarters of the game and Fine threw on target passes to receivers who could not get separation or win battles for 50/50 balls.  The offensive line was just whipped all day.  A lot of pressure was put on our defense and they responded well.  I am very confident that if the defense plays like they played against Florida for the rest of the year they will be more than capable of putting this team in position to win conference games this year.

Agree. Our D did a great job. The edge could have been set better at times vs the run and mutiple LB's accounting for the same hole needs to be shored up (hurt us vs SMU as well). All in all, the defense stood their ground and I commend them for that. If they play with that same tenacity and grit in conference play we will fair well THIS season.

Well, Fine has only been part of 3 NCAA games since his graduation from HS & his offense line is not yet of the same quality we all saw at the Cotton Bowl Stadium's HOD Bowl game on January 1, 2014.

We have not recruited well almost since they opened Apogee Stadium and by now we've all heard all the stories why.  With DT#7's MG offensive line Mason Fine would go on a slobber'knockin' gridiron tear!  McCarney & gang used Todd Dodge's recruits to win a bowl game 2 years ago and then went into recruiting hibernation (hence, a Portland State would rear its ugly head at our place).   We have some fine young players on this team and some veterans who may very well mesh before this season ends, but a 4 or 5 win season would be considered an outstanding coaching job by Coach Littrell & Company.

Once again, we all have to be patient due to the prior staff enjoying the hell out of their last couple of years in Denton to feather all their 401-k's.   They got their chicken $alad--we & our present football team get the chicken caca of their not hustling to put a string of good classes together to help the cause & our present players on scholarship. Its really not fair to those presently on the team that they weren't giving more help for this 2016 Mean Green football campaign.

We're all biased, but for heaven's sake,  North Texas should not be so difficult a sell to those kids we will eventually have & who will be the ones who will take us to higher places than any of us have seen.

Look at the expanded athletic administrative support group we now have who are all in lock-step to see that Coach Littrell & his coaches get all they need to succeed?   And you can begin with one the whose quote is my below signature.
