If Muschamp was at Florida when we played them there would be a decent chance at the win.

McElwain is a much better coach and Florida is year further along their rebuilding path under his leadership.

Florida has two stud WR who will be out one with a bad hamstring and the other a quad I believe I'll look for the tweet.

I agree that on paper we don't pull it off. We are still putting together all the pieces and developing an identity. I feel really good about the coaching staff and the way they relate to the players. It looks like our guys have bought into the system, it is just a matter of coming together on execution. Sooner or later this team's light is going to come on and they will have one of "those" games. As for the Reptiles, they go on the road to Tennessee after us so maybe they think we're a breather. Let's give them our best shot and see where we stand at the end of the day.

Can you not say Whore games in the DRC?

Because that's what it is, a lazy, fired AD who whored out our young football players due to his laziness.

I pray to God WB can find some way to change up this aged awful, lazy, man whorin' schedule left for him by the last terrible AD.

The reality is that the $1 million dollar payday this week(and every other body bag game) was a built in reason for RV to not have to work hard. We only "need" the body bag game so that RV could cover his butt in regards to lackluster ticket sales, fund raising, hiring, etc, etc, etc...

I don't care for the term "body bag" game, but I'd like to remind everyone that one of our worst defeats was against a 1-AA team at Apogee last season.  A game everyone thought we'd win before kickoff.  My biggest problem with these games is that we're giving away the store.  These big programs will pay more.  Our price should be 2 mil or we should stay home and have 7 games at Apogee.  I'd rather play somebody at home and I bet the difference after expenses isn't that much better playing a P5 on the road.

Keep the streak alive.  Beat Florida

This is correct. Whatever made things easier for the last AD was far more important than what was best for the UNT  football program.

Let's hope the mindset chance has taken hold and WB won't be drug down by the Terrible culture inside the AD.

One of these days, we will beat one of these power conference teams, but we would do really well to avoid southern powers in the ACC, SEC, and Big XII. You can Still make a lot of money going to B1G or Pac schools. Yes, Iowa drilled our worst team we have ever had, but that was also Iowa's best team they have had in decades. In any previous season, Iowa has struggled in those OOC games that they have bought, which is why next season's bodybag game at least intrigues me that we can compete, unlike most of the years we have to play these games. The othr big issue I have with playing these southern schools, especially Arkansas, OU, A&M, Texas, or LSU is that those schools alrady have plenty of t-shirt fans and when we lose, it just further enables our alums and students to continue following those Power schools instead of our own.

I remember when I was still preparing my application to UNT but watching the Mean Green take on the Georgia Bulldogs on ESPN. I remember the blocked punt that turned into the game-tying score and getting so excited. It's not like ranked teams go undefeated against the unranked, so you never know. I'm sure when the ESPN announcers get a hold of the fact that North Texas won the schools' only other meeting, they'll have a field day with "the Mean Green trying to go 2-0 against the Gators" if this game is kept close.

I hope Wren Baker is on top of securing home-and-home series. Unfortunately, if no games are canceled, the next open slot for a nonconference opponent is 2020.

Is this true?  Just looked it up omg it is.   The new AD has to do everything in his power to get 2 of these 3 opponents removed from our schedule: (Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, or Abilene Christian).  That isn't a 6th or 7th home game that is a glorified scrimmage that does nothing for your program and doesn't make it look like a serious FBS program.

^^^ So true no research necessary.  There are lot of directions you can go with scheduling before settling for the teams I mentioned earlier.  Tulane, Texas State, New Mexico State, Tulsa, Utah State, Nevada, UMass, Georgia State, and Georgia Southern are options for home and home that you could win.

Just went FCS.

Correct, I meant to say not D1AA but FBS.  :) I can see it happening sooner rather than later.

Our schedule for OOC is so frustrating, but there's not much that can be done, unless other FBS schools get openings on their schedules and then we can buy out the FCS opponents, which seems pretty far-fetched.

RV's laziness as the AD shows in many ways, but the schedule is his lasting legacy of pure suckitude. So next year, we get Lamar and Army to go along with Rice, UTEP, UTSA, and an Eastern CUSA team out of this group (ODU, Charlotte, FAU, or FIU). Its not exactly what was promised when Apogee was being voted on, but its what we got with RV.

Maybe. With the addition of UAB I think there's a lot of uncertainty as to what the conference will do over the next couple of seasons...

And how realignment may affect our conference, as well.

In deference to UNT90, you can't lay the blame of body bag games on any one A.D. We have had to play them as long as I can remember. At least we are down to about one a year.We have about a million dollar annual revenue shortfall, and when/if we make it up then we will not have to play a high paying road game. It's just economics, and if you look at members of the GANG of 5 conference schedules  they  all do the same.

OK--we have the shortfall. Then don't spend 400k or more to buy a FCS spare to come here. Play 5 home games one season, 6 the next. Don't spend 40% of your body bag $$$ on FCS spares that nobody cares about and don't help your team compete against other FBS teams.

no thanks.   I'll take the FCS game VS 5 games every time.
That only speaks to the bolded above.    Has nothing to do with RV's lack of scheduling prowess, which we can all agree, was pitiful.
If you buy out one of the FCS games, you'd better have a plan on how to replace that game, at home, or there will be anarchy.

We #expectmore. That's why Wren Baker is calling the shots now. Yea, RV sucked, that's why he got removed. Move on, your banner worked. Go celebrate the win.

Like it or not, many G5s play P5s.  Can't beat them if you don't play them.
