After two games, how are you feeling about special teams?

Looks like we are solid in XP and Field Goal. Punter is good, blocking horrible. Kickoff and Punt coverage are lacking. Good to see true freshman Tyler Wilson block a punt and have a big return.

Thoughts?

Special teams has been a bright spot over the past few years.  I really like Tommy Perry.  We are seeing some big plays on special teams this year, but unfortunately some of those have been to the benefit of the opposing teams.

Completely agree. We have good kickers and punters. Our protecction of the two is medium maybe. But coverage is horrible and our own return game hasn't shown much yet, but it also hasn't f'ed up yet. But the n is fairly small so far, so conclusions are a bit early to count for all the season.

FG is pretty automatic if inside a 30 yard attempt. 30-40 is iffy. Anything over 40 is a crapshoot.

I don't consider that solid.

if we play like we have been we're going to give up 2 touchdowns because of special teams against florida and i don't see us getting that much better between bc and them.  any combination of blocks and/or returns.

Tommy Perry is much too focused on his television stardom...

Honestly, I highly value Perry's role in assisting with the coaching staff transition.  I assume some of the issues we've seen thus far can be traced back to the lack of roster depth.  I'm confident he'll get them coached up in short order.

That's something I can live with this year.

Anyone check the roster when our special teams are on the field? I would be curious to know how many "young Kids" we put out there. Regardless, this should be an area of  concern after last week.

In my opinion, Tommy Perry was the only coach from last year who deserved to stay (yes, including KP). Special teams and running backs have consistently been a strength for us, even in the bad years.
