So what happened to that ref?

From my view it looked like he was gonna die right there on the field, and we thought we saw his leg bent all kinds of wrong.  We were surprised to see him walk off the field.  What happened, and did he get back in the game?  Do they have bench refs in case one goes down like that?

he came back out and was on the sideline.

Looked like a hamstring to me. Same thing with SMU's running back when he was running free for yet another TD and just fell to the ground.

I thought it looked like it was his hip.  I immediately started wondering if his dog was adequately secured behind a closed gate

I too saw his leg bent in an abnormal way and it looked as if his hip popped out of the socket. Afterward, walking like it as well. If so, he would have been able to come back. 

Was definitely gross with him laying there in the middle of the field.

Back Judge pulled a hammy. The "C" center judge moved from the backfield to to take the Back judge spot and they worked the game from then on with 7 officials.

After further review, the Back Judge did grasp his hamstring during the injury.  The hip call is overturned.  @RealMeanGreenMatt will not be charged a time out.
