If you read between the lines, I don't think it's too difficult to see the "no thanks" to UNT for the opportunity to become a D1 HC, nor to the fans for supporting his team, home and away, after losing an even better coach. He did what he was paid for, but the haste to leave and manner it happened didn't fall on deaf ears.
NT Athletic history of growth or demise can largely be tracked by who the President and AD were at the times.
Fry and Nolen provided a huge re-make of Athletics in the 70's leading with the Flying Worm and using Mean Green officially.
Tyler and Hurley presided over the drop to 1-AA.
RV and Dr. Pohl spurred conference upgrades, the new football stadium and Athletic complex west of I-35.
Wren and Smatresk saw revival of Men's basketball and the move to the AAC.
