Zachary Orr Taking Lead At Weak-Side Linebacker Competition

The former undrafted free agent is in line for a starting job next to C.J. Mosley in the middle of the defense.

Perhaps the most up-in-the-air position battle of training camp is starting to gain some clarity.

The Ravens came into the summer with an open linebacker spot next to C.J. Mosley in the middle of the defense, and third-year defender Zachary Orr is making a strong case to win the job.

“He’s in the lead,” Linebackers Coach Don Martindale said about Orr.

But in all seriousness, congrats to Zach for doing what we all believed he was capable of doing. Great kid from a great family. It'll be interesting to see if Nick and Chris join him in the NFL in a few years.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I really do wonder how he got passed over in the draft. Doesn't the NFL have like 385,000 rounds? How did NOBODY pick him up?

Only 7 rounds. I think the NFL has forgotten that UNT plays football.

Heard that there were two Cowboys scouts (including Scouting Director), one Colts, and one Chargers scout at the scrimmage Saturday...

Do do not recall seeing them at August scrimmages in the past

Im sure as a program we've not helped ourselves at all.

If you were paying much attention to the Ravens/Zach last season, this shouldn't come as a surprise.
He was playing next to Mosley more at the end of the season than Darryl Smith (yes, the ProBowl/All-Pro LB). Hence, Smith was let go.
I got a little nervous when the Ravens drafted Correa from Boise, but I had faith that Zach would out-duel him.

Proud of my boy! (adopted 2011 - 2013).

I am just glad to see a young man of his ability and, but more importantly, character represent North Texas. I would take a thousand Zach Orr's over some of the meatheads representing other, bigger universities that get draft just because of the school they attended.
