Attaway , Bridges, and Stack were all better Qbs than what we've had the past couple of seasons.

I was a freshman in '99. I was shocked to hear in the halls that we had beaten Tech because I didn't even know we were playing Tech. I remember going to that Baylor game in Waco and parking a couple hundred yards behind Floyd Casey Stadium. Walking up and sitting down in an all but empty visitors section. I remember thinking that Attaway and Bridges were terrible and that Wilburn was pretty good. I watched some highlights that year and thought McGrew was awesome but he didn't do anything in that Baylor game. That was the only game I went to until 2005 when I really began following the team. I only went to the Baylor game because my girlfriend's dad lived in Waco and my high school teammate was a freshman on Baylor's team. The difference in school spirit between 1999 and 2005 was staggering to me.

That was the school spirit built by those Dickey bowl teams.   However all the Buick Haters will tell you that those years did nothing.  You'll notice those haters were not on campus at the time.

There is a reason the Die Hards are primarily of two age groups, those that saw the Fry teams, and those that saw the Dickey teams.   There are always some people who become real grognards every year, but the bulk of our realy die hards are from those years.

Very apt comparison since we could be seen to have three distinct groups the old veterans (Fry), the middle (miracle bowl run/Buick), and the newest group (HOD).

Those two wins were Texas Tech (in Lubbock) and Boise State (on the blue astroturf).  It's a lot better than getting murdered by Portland State... so you have to keep that in mind.

Pretty sure that year the victory against Boise was at Fouts. We beat them on the blue turf in '98.

We interrupt the predominant tone of this board for a moment of positivity:

For the record, there are handful of teams (maybe 2 or 3 that played more than one game against Boise) that can boast a non-losing cumulative record against Boise. North Texas, 3-3, is one of them.*

You may now resume your regularly scheduled negativity:

So you know I am capable of it, 11,648 saw NT beat Boise 17-10 on the hallowed Field they called Fouts that day. I can report the pee wall was fully functional. I spelled GMG in cursive on that wall every time I used it.

GMG

*Fact Checker gave me 1.5 Pinocchio's. There are not many, but more than a few, teams that have a non-losing record against Boise, including Northwestern State but not SMU.

There are several of us around from the 1988-89 seasons, also. We were ranked #1 in D1AA to start the season in 1989.
