Also noticed Eric Jenkins is not listed, despite footage of him running around Apogee.

@BillySee58,
So the 3 spots Johnson, Hayes & Turner took up on this class' (2016) 25-scholarship limit, are back open to use on others?  Is that why we were able to sign Hoston, Peters & I'm drawing a blank on the last one (thought it was Jenkins, but I don't see him)...

According to some who cited sources regarding McCarney's recruiting/walkon practices, despite only signing 19 guys in February, we only had 1 spot remaining.  We went out and used that spot on Wyche.   So, despite only signing 20, we went out and also signed Hoston & Peters, but lost 3.

If that is the case, is that last spot now available to use next year?   Say we have the full 25 to use next year (again, I've heard we don't), would we be able to use this leftover ship from 2016 to make it 26 players next February?

Interesting change I saw. RS Freshman RD Wegmann has been moved from defensive line to offensive line. Now we have just 3 scholarship defensive tackles available, with English forced to sit. Although with a first unit yesterday of Combs, Young, and Dilonga with Wheeler as the rush linebacker, it looks like we're going to see some of these defensive ends playing more 3-technique, and more inside in general.

Yeah looks like Tauaalo, Combes, and Young are it. Looks like they're gonna be using the ~260 lb guys at 3 tech. I'm assuming with his background and personnel shortcomings Ekeler might be living/dying by the blitz

Sid Moore as well. Although he is more of a 3-tech himself. And our defensive ends are more outside guys themselves. Combs and maybe Dilonga have the size to handle 3-tech, but not sure about the other guys. Rod Young may be the most indispensable player on our roster, outside of Alec Morris and possibly McClain and Gray as well.

True. But you also have to think about Flusche and Hoston too. Wheeler is fast enough to handle a standup role, but i don't think any of those other traditional ends can play that standup/rushing backer role like Wheeler and Peters can

Hope Moore put on some weight.  If not he'll be on rollerskates at 260.

Flusche came in as a walkon linebacker. I don't know that he's a guy suited to play 3-tech. I think Tillman Johnson and Jarrian Roberts could play that standup role. Not sure where they were at in the spring. Roberts came in as a linebacker as well.

He's a fourth-year guy. Time for him to prove it, one way or the other

This defense needs a fire hydrant at the nose.  If not they will be pounding it up our gut and throwing over us when we cheat up.

Yeah I thought Flusche was rotating in with Combs and Dilonga at the 3-tech in the spring game? I figured with the linebacker rotation we'd have with Finney, Scott, Minor, Peters, Wheeler, Garner they'd have to put the guys  pushing 260 up on the line moreso for the lack of depth we have on the line.

Hence my reasoning for all the blitzing. What we lack in size we'll have to make up in sheer numbers

The real question is how many guys do we have who are not just pushing 260 on the roster, but are pushing 260 on an actual scale.

Size would be ideal but if we don't have it I hope we don't try to play like we do!  Instead slant your butt off every play!

study other teams tendencies and play to that!  If you real yourself getting driven backwards drop down and make a pile do not get driven 10 yards down field.

first year in college played defensive end at a whooping 205 we ran a 4-3 my position coach told me my responsibility was to squeeze down the tackle and don't let anything outside of me.  The second half of that statement was not hard because of my speed, but squeezing down a 290lb tackle at 205 not happening!  Needless to say things did not work out well for me spent a lot of time on my back with a huge Tackle on top of me.  Lord help me if ever they had a TE as well.

next year new d coordinator moves in we install a 4-2-5 slant every play and I find myself making plays in the backfield often.  Lined up in a 4 technique (head up on the tackle) he had no clue which way I was going.  If I found out I slanted wrong I would re-direct and get back down the line of scrimmage.

We need the "second coming of Booger".

I think I'd be lucky to see another one of his like in my lifetime.

We've had a lot of incredible student athletes come through our school.  None of them, as far as my eyes are concerned since 1999, controlled their part of the field like he did.

I think we have a few people around here that have been lucky enough to see Big Joe Greene and Booger play college in person. Greatness!

I've seen them both and will add another Walter Chapman to that list.   Walter was amazing, he had tackle totals that were unbelievable for a nose guard.

On topic, people should realize that this defense only uses one DT.   So having four is not idea, but all four have at least some playing time.   So dt probably has a lot more proven depth than the offensive line.

I honestly think Moore could be a lot better if he just acquired whatever discipline it takes to avoid penalties.  Hard to be helpful after being ejected.

Moore is a third year guy, correct?  I have always heard that he didn't see eye to eye with his coaches.  If correct, I hope he has matured and is ready to contribute.
