I will say right now we are bringing in exactly $0 additional dollars in terms of tickets sales (and corresponding concession sales) and quite likely MGC donations right now because we don't have baseball.

In the big-money world of college sports, baseball finishes last on the bottom line.

Well we kinda sorta promised CUSA it was coming when we were invited... so sooner or later we should get around to it.

 

It's like when my wife keeps asking me to do some thing around the house.  I keep telling her "if I said I would do it, I'm going to do it.  There else no need to come around and nag me about it every six months."

So in order for the athletic department to get me to spend more money, the AD must add sports that I (and likely other fans as well) want to see played. Baseball is one the sport I am most interested in see being added.

Nobody cares about college baseball. Rice isn't out there killing it in the athletics world because their baseball program is good. Their football and basketball teams are still only marginally better than ours.

Does UTEP get a pass or will they have to start up the Title IX machine too to crank out more expenses to their athletics program?

I wouldn't say nobody ... Obviously those that want baseball at North Texas seem to care at least a little.

Maybe we can jump to the AAC instead of adding baseball. SMU and Tulsa don't have baseball.

I'm there with you.   I'm on the record as saying I'll buy season tickets when it gets going.   But there is not going to be a way baseball makes UNT any money unless we happen to become a Rice-like threat every year.  Even then, I doubt we'll be bringing in much profit, if any.

Look... Sorry, but RV wasn't the devil.  Getting rid of him isn't some sort of magic bullet.  There was long term systematic problems well before RV got here, so stop hanging your hopes on everything being better just because our sins were written upon RV and then he was driven out into the desert.  It doesn't work that way.

Us getting baseball is something Rawlins hung around our neck (and IMHO a good idea), so now the school can decide to honor it or not.   But it will effect our image, not anyone else.

I don't think it's unreasonable to wonder if RV over promised to Rawlins.

Doesn't matter if he did.  Rawlins as the president of the university made the decision.

So with baseball we'd just add another $1 million deficit to the AD budget? In the name of "getting our brand out there"? If FBS football and making the NCAA tourney doesn't get your name out there, being a middle of the road CUSA baseball team certainly isn't.

I believe there has been a change in plans.  Rather than a center tennis court at Warranch, plans now include indoor tennis courts instead.  When weather doesn't allow outdoor play (i.e. rain), the team has had to play their competitive matches at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, or even at SMU's courts.  These have to be scheduled at times courts are not reserved for country club members (or SMU team activities) and often the needed 6 courts are not all available at the same time. 

This is really a poor situation and one not faced by most other universities.  This is also a problem for visiting teams in terms of their travel schedules.  It would also be nice to have them for practice in bad weather.  Plus most other universities have scoreboards...we don't.  It is really remarkable that we compete as well as we do with facilities that don't match most of our opponents!

Yes. Sometimes I go into a hole and don't realize what has happened until it is too late. Oh well. Wren will fix it.....I hope. Maybe he will make us the 2nd public FBS institution in Texas to make baseball profitable behind only the Longhorns.

There are only ~23 schools in the nation that can even make football profitable, college sports is not really a profit leader.  You have to factor in the soft benefits or almost no one should do it.

Right.  
When you're talking about UNT adding baseball, you're really asking the UNT BOR to add more funding to the athletic department.   Now, that appears to be something Smatresk is willing to ask for, but up until recently, did not seem like something the BOR cared to do.   With Brint chairing the Board now, this seems more feasible.  It could just be a perfect storm brewing.   Fingers crossed.

The center court is just a grass field right now.   Why not plan to make the center court an indoor venue?
