This is basically Littrell's first team rules violation situation.  I have to think minimum one game suspension which stinks for us because he was our best receiver next to Tee and we could have used him against SMU.

Littrell needs to make a point to the team about DWI.  Luckily no one was hurt on this one.

Also, if he was with teammates they should get some wind sprints or something as they should t have allowed him to be driving.

Well Vito is an actual journalist.  So he has to do things like get a second source and try to reach out to the involved parties to get a statement.

It's what used to happen before everyone decided twitter leaks were good enough.

I think the whole team will be running.....Recieved this from my son this morning with the article on the arrest....

son - It was nice knowing y'all

me - What?

Son - I said it was nice knowing you because Littrell gonna kill us.

Sounds like SL is going to backup his "a good team polices itself" talk by incentivizing them to do so.

Since I won't be the one running, I approve of this method.

At a P5 this would be a non issue, assuming the player is expected to be a factor. Also, a P5 would have already brought back Kidsy if he has skills.

Are you really ready to win like the big boys?

Thanks for sharing this Mom.  Well that stinks for your son who is innocent but they are a team and hopefully can all learn a valuable lesson from this situation.  This is really a pretty easy global fix for the department if they would set up everyone on an Uber account.

Brett Vito is an employee of the Denton Record Chronicle (DRC).  An employee is someone who performs work and has recognized rights and responsibilities in exchange for some form of remuneration.  We could further define "work" but I fear it would be tangential at best to the current conversation.

To further clarify, Brett Vito's role at the DRC is that of a professional newspaper writer.  Contrary to many other forms of new media journalism, traditional professional journalists have a tend to follow a ethical code.   The tenants of that code usually include things like:

Quote

– Take responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Verify information before releasing it. Use original sources whenever possible.

– Remember that neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy

– Provide context. Take special care not to misrepresent or oversimplify in promoting, previewing or summarizing a story.

– Gather, update and correct information throughout the life of a news story.

Diligently seek subjects of news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism or allegations of wrongdoing.

So yes traditional journalists are usually behind the "first reporters" of a story, because their processes take longer.  You will also find that "first reporters" are often wrong.

Not being first doesn't mean that traditional print journalists like Vito are doing a bad job.  They are performing their function.  That is why traditional print journalists are more often right about what they report.

That brings up a great interview that Joe Buck did with Jimmy Johnson: When asked about cutting a player that fell asleep during a Cowboys team meeting Jimmy stated that, "I put players on different tiers based on their skill level. I treat them accordingly. The player that fell asleep was a special teams contributor. So when I caught him sleeping I cut him. Michael Irvin asked me what I would have done if Troy Aikman had slept during the meeting. I said that I would have whispered in Troy's ear to wake up."

"Breaking" . . . You might mention that Maduro is the one who broke it in the other thread.

I think I'll get a new hat for this season with a "Press" tab inserted to the front.  :)

No.  This isn't Nazi Germany.  Don't be a jerk to the cop but don't let anyone tell you to do something that you know is wrong.  you should have just sat there until someone could come pick you up.  Neither of you should have been driving.

Darvin Kidsy, another wide receiver who was expected to play a key role for the Mean Green this year, was charged in a hit-and-run accident in January and has since been removed from UNT’s roster. Kidsy caught 17 passes for 240 yards last season.

This comment right here by @Brett Vito should be a main talking point for Littrell to his team in regards to drinking and driving. Kidsy should be used as an example, not only for the players but everyone. Your life can change for the worst in a mili second. What if that guy he hit died? What if he ran into a light pole and died?

I would say at least a game suspension

All very true.  At the same time, a good journalist might consider every once in a while giving credit to the one who first broke the story rather than insinuating that he is himself the "first reporter."

Sure, Rick, you should have refused to do what he told you to do and told him "I know my rights" even though you didn't at that age.

All that would have happened is you would have gotten arrested for driving while license expired, your friend arrested for PI, and your car towed. But, hey, you would have proven this isn't Nazi Germany, by God.

Good to know you were smarter as a 21 year old than @GTWT is as a 30 something...

I've told this before,....but true story.

I was forced to allow a drunk student who I was driving home....to drive my mustang instead,....after a young Denton County Sherriff Deputy pulled me over for a moving violation and learned my driver's license had expired the week before.

The student told the deputy.." I'm intoxicated and he's driving me home to my parent's house..and I can't even drive a standard transmission".

The Deputy didn't care.  He wrote me a citation for going around a median initially "Driving the wrong way"..for all of about 20 feet at 2 a.m.  Then said if we wanted to go home I would have to let the other guy drive because my license was expired.  So we switched seats and he watched us chug down McKinney Street till we were out of site. When we got to the railroad tracks near the courthouse we pulled over and quickly switched back and I hauled ass out of site.

I had an interesting discussion with the judge over the department first thing the next Monday morning who not only tore up my citation but said he would immediately have a talk with the guy's superior.

BTW....  I had to list this as a prior for my background check and subsequent interview to get on the fire department because I wasn't sure if it was in fact on my record or not?   During my interview before a panel of about 10 officials i was asked about it of course and I told the story.  Everyone in the room was like..."Your kidding, right?".

The shit we go through growing up, huh?  But most importantly..no matter what the case is...DO WHAT THE COP FREAKING TELLS YOU TO DO and worry about the right or wrong of it later.

Yes, and if he would've hit and killed someone he would still be in jail to this day. But as long as you do what the police say, right?
