Every year before football season we ask our members to recommend their favorite places to eat and drink in Denton.  With many of us heading to Denton for the games, it makes for a great time to explore and enjoy some of the better places to grub out and drink up.  I also like to hear about establishments who truly support UNT.  That is important to me. I have a couple of suggestion to get things started.

First off, for quick good and cold sandwiches to beat the heat there is nothing better than the NY Sub Hub right across from Campus:

I have been going here since I was a student.  It's not fancy but extremely consistent.  I suggest the Boiled Ham and cheese.  It's a good place if you are in a hurry.  Also they support the school with UNT memorabilia on the walls which is a plus.  I get crap for picking this every year but it has some sentimental value for me and I do still think they make a damn good sandwich.

For drinks my fav remains Eastside

Eastside has 100's of drafts as well as mixed drinks for your drinking pleasure.  It is a great spot to visit both before and after games.  They have sort of a saloon style set up inside with a juke box and games.  In the back they have a cool patio which is lit at night.  They don't serve food but do have some awesome food trucks which can be better than restaurant food in my opinion.  Owners are huge Mean Green fans and it is fairly normal to see UNT coaches and AD staff there after games.  They will often televise aways games and it's awesome to have everyone in the bar sing the fight songs after wins.

I offered some more traditional options, my hope is that we will get to view some newly created options as well as perhaps some good places that get overlooked this year.  GMG

Paschall Bar.

The best prohibition/high-end cocktail style mixed drinks you'll find west of the Mississippi, at Denton prices. It's a hidden gem in town, no sign, just a door next to Andy's. Ivy League bar style, books, chess tables, etc. Can't explain it til you visit. The best view of the Courthouse and downtown Denton around. You realize how special of a place Denton is when you see the sunset through their window. Owned by the Midlake guys, so the music is on point.

Not the greatest beer selection, but that's not what it's about. Hopping bar after 9pm, but during the day it's a great place to read and day drink. Probably my favorite cocktail bar, ever.

An overlooked, UNT-friendly bar is Hickory Street Lounge. It's pretty fun, and they love their sports. It's nestled between Rusty Taco and Hoochie's. Good cocktails and the owner has good Cheer's atmosphere going. It's typically an older crowd. There's always a pool going with someone, whether for NCAA bracket, football, baseball, horse racing, etc.

For food Tex Tapas has some great food, but not sure how UNT-oriented they are. It's over between Dan's and Rooster's.

Stop in at Audacity to try a flight of Denton made beers.

LSA on the square has excellent queso (be sure to get the brisket queso).

Khao San Thai on university (next to Starbucks) is really good.

After a night a revelry at either East Side or Oak St stop by Queenie's for Back Dough donuts. They only serve them from the 'back door' on Austin Street from 11:00 to 1:00 on Friday and Saturday nights. Thanks to @Travis Scott for the tip.

Some of my favorites that probably won't get mentioned here:

Pupusas:  Guadalinda Cafe

Tacos:  La Estrella

Waistline Indulgence:  Candy Haven and Kolache Haven

Drinks:  Ah, who am I kidding?  If I ain't at Eastside/Oak Street, I probably ain't drinkin'

Never know what you gonna get live music:  Andy's

Coffee: Cultivar inside Hypnotic Donuts

Donuts:  Hypnotic Donuts

Greek:  Yummy's (because really, my kid ruh-heally digs the Greek coffee there)

Burgers:  You don't really think I'm gonna answer that, do you?

Sandwiches:  Captain Nemo's or whatever the hell it's called now if you can find them when they're open.

Breakfast:  Cafe Loco, although I fully intend on trying the Abbey Inn brunch this weekend

Big fan of The Loophole for drinks and they have decent food, but Eastside/OSDH&CP are always great. Also if you're feeling like a college kid again you can't go wrong with a Denton double from Lucky Lou's

Food wise: Rooster's Roadhouse, Old West, Burger Time Machine, Frilly's

Coffee: Jupiter House

Good call on Loophole.  Very consistent.

the one in Irving is still thriving.....I believe it was the original as well.

There was one up here yeaaaaars ago that was the true original. Family drama and all that.

And I will second the Loophole suggestion - excellent menu.

Second for Candy/Kolache Haven and Mr. Frosty, and props to you both for suggesting these Denton institutions. When I opened the Putt Putt Golf and Games in Denton, Candy Haven was my birthday cake vendor. And they are still my favorite cake. Mr. Frosty is our after game hangout (I usually have lots of kids with me).

Number 1 son recommends, but I haven't been yet, Dix Coney Island. Open 24 hours, a rarity amongst Denton's non-chain food joints. He eats the breakfast, usually pancakes, any time of day and reports the price point would make this Scot a happy diner. Can't wait for football season.
