He may be a great candidate, but after reading his bio that guy does not move the needle for me at all.  Nothing I read leads me to believe he can turn this thing around.

It moves the needle for me ... in an entirely non sexual way.   :)   He's worked at some big schools and held a lot of responsibilities.  If he has the people skills to go along with his experience then he may be a great choice.

The real question is ... why are we supposed to keep an eye on this guy?  What does TheReal_jayD know???

He has some quality experience in certain areas of the job...but not where we need it the most. Negatory!

Get me a person that has been successful marketing and raising money under challenging s circumstances! Operation side is way down the list!

This.

I don't want a P5 guy who has never had to struggle. He won't understand the challenge.

And I damn sure don't want Craig Helwig 2.0, which is what this guy appears to be.

I don't think this is the guy we need right now. We need to find someone with experience successfully guiding a G5 athletic department.

Give me Mike O'Brien from Toledo. Toledo has had 9 winning seasons in his 12 years as AD, and hasn't produced a losing season in football since 2009. I believe O'Brien is currently making around $209,000 at Toledo. We were paying RV $300,000, so this guy should be in our price range.

Here are some excerpts from his bio, and link...

"Since becoming the school’s 13th athletic director on Jan. 22, 2002, the Rockets have won or shared 29 MAC division, regular-season and tournament titles in the sports of football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s swimming, baseball and women’s volleyball. In that same span, UT has made eight bowl appearances in football"

"Among O’Brien’s other accomplishments are adding Ohio State, Miami (FL), Colorado, Purdue, Arizona, Missouri, Navy, Fresno State, Boise State, BYU, Iowa State and Cincinnati to the home football schedule"

"Previous to his appointment at UT, O’Brien had 15 years of experience in athletics administration at four universities, Kansas State (associate A.D., 1997-2001), Lamar (athletic director, 1993-97)"

You mean the three 4 star kids, and the two 3 stars?

Those both include their Baylor kids. They may have been top 10, but I highly doubt it. They added a ton of talent.

On signing day Texas was 11th on 247, 10th on ESPN, 13th on Rivals, and 8th on scout.

Here is another name that I'd like to see considered:

http://www.ragincajuns.com/staff.aspx?staff=135

I understand that his salary is $150,000 which should mean that we could double it.  As you can see, he has painted with a broad brush.  The Cajuns are among the best in the country in baseball and softball.  Increased football attendance and seems competitive in all of their 16 sports.  Decent hires and remember he is not working with much of a budget as FBS schools go.  He has had to raise a lot of the funds privately.

How many of their players bumped a peg or two simply because UT offered is my question here.   Also glad to know I was right again.  lol
