Yes, the mug joke comes around about every three years but this time it has quite a bit of traction. On my Facebook account, this is shown as the #1 trending "news"item today.

North Texas State or NTSU to this day has better name recognition nationally than UNT. It certainly has a more masculine image for sure.

which is what everyone should prioritize in a college search.

NTSU has better name recognition, without a doubt. But the name "North Texas State" is way too third-rate directional college for me.

I usually refer to us as North Texas. I also call us UNT, but prefer NT. I wish we would place more of a focus on marketing our university as "NT", especially once we have our baseball program. I think a stylized "NT" on the jersey's would look very nice.

I agree. I've had a viseral disdain for any name with "Texas State" in it since San Marcos High soiled it. I think University of North Texas is solid.

We had our last win in football over a ranked team as NTSU.

We were last ranked in football as NTSU.

We were ranked #1 nationally in FCS in football for 8 weeks as NTSU.

And we first balled in the dance as NTSU.

Looking back on it all UNT has done nothing for us.  So overall we probably should have just remained North Texas State at the Centennial in 1990.

Historically, UNT was the school's first choice back in 61 when we submitted a bill to change our name. Because there were a lot of A-Holes in the legislature back then who objected to us calling ourselves something similar to UT, we had to compromise on NTSU.

We lived with it all those years until it was changed to UNT. But UNT or NTSU, we (the alumni and community people) still just say "North Texas".

And that's why I like the Alumni Associations logo. It should be on the battle flag in place of the single star.

This is exactly right.  North Texas.....or NT.

This is why since the late 80's when the new name was coming out but prior to the "UNT" branding took hold I suggested we stay with an interlinked NT.  We've had an interlinked NT for decades.

We know we're a university, we don't need the U.

I have no problem with UNT.  I don't much care what it says when you put it on a coffee mug. I find it amusing. But not demeaning towards our university.

Plus, this is really old news.
