They said Smatresk wanted an AD hire in July. Said it plain as day.

Yes they did.

Final decision will be Smatresk, Mr. Ryan and a third person I can never remember his name?

Seems several years ago..('08-'11?).... ULL went a year or more without an AD in their search.   I hope our guys take their own time and get it right.

I bet the new AD is announced before the Southern Meth game.

And by the way, without looking, how many athletic directors of any size college can you name ?  The only one I can think of is DeLoss Dodds and he hasn't been at Texas in years.  See how many you can think of.

As long as he or she can have the statue for Joe Greene erected in time to be unveiled before or at halftime of SMU game. I'm happy :)

You say that like you think it's not an important position. Surely after the issues at UNT you don't believe that, do you?

The only one I ever can think of is DeLoss Dodds honestly.  It's not a position that seems to be much in the limelight.

I absolutely believe the AD position to be very important.  Since the AD hires the coach, perhaps more important than the coach himself, although not paid as well generally.  My point was, and I think I made it, that outside our own little "University of Whatever" most people don't know the AD by personality.  He or she is known, without name, by the hires they make.  Some get it right over and over.  Some never seem to get it.  I listen to the coach's show or the post game interview with the coach.  I don't recall tuning in to catch the AD show before or after the game.

This hire is likely the most important in my 35 year tenure as a Mean Green fan.

Just sayin'.

Not sure if it is good or bad, but the first thing I noticed about RV was how much he seemed to crave attention.  AD's are a much more visible positions than in the old days; but I think RV was unusual in how much he interjected himself into the athletic events.   Other than AD coaches like Rust and Fry, I can hardly remember even noticing other NT AD's.
