The Larry Brown era at SMU is coming to an end, according to reports Friday morning.

CBS Sports basketball insider Jon Rothstein reports that Larry Brown is stepping down as head coach of the SMU men's basketball program, a move that has to do with the school's unwillingness to offer a long-term contract going forward.

Tim Jankovich is expected to take Brown's place, Rothstein reports. When NCAA sanctions forced Brown off the bench for the first nine games of last season, Jankovich led the team.

So it WAS about the money after all and not just the kids right Larry?

Wish I could share your amusement, but considering who is leading our team and where they have led us, I would take Jank in a heartbeat.

Back on topic, this is typical Larry Brown MO.  Go to a program, build a winner, leave the program, the program ends up with sanctions.  SMU being SMU.  It is sad that the two programs in Texas with the most visible "incidents" of cheating/running a rogue program are tied to the Baptist and Methodist denominations of Christianity.

It has become clear that Christian based schools should not play sports.

It has become clear that they should be a better reflection of the teachings of the religion.

Don't laugh. He (Brown) could be Benford's replacement when the new AD is named from within. Then the AD will thumb his nose at SMUt and holler "Gotcha!".

It has become clear that the NCAA will only investigate small, Christian based schools in Texas. UT and A&M are off limits.

Schmoo is pretty much Christian-based in name only. They only worship dead presidents these days.

I'm so happy that Jankovich will get the opportunity to coach the Mustangs.  He's a class act and will do great things there....wish we had him back.
