I believe in the right to bare arms.  Any kind.........well, almost.

Recently went to a gun store in Bee Cave, looking for a shotgun cleaning kit with my brother.  While he was looking at the available kits, I wandered around the store and came upon a room with all of the AR16 type rifles.  Being a 'Nam era vet, I couldn't help but notice on display several weapons that were used during that conflict and are probably still used today by our armed forces.  One in particular was a fully automatic, .50 caliber machine gun, tripod mount, a real workhorse in battle.  A single .50 caliber round will cut a person in half.  To my amazement, this weapon had a price tag of $40,000+.  It was in working order and for sale!!!  I asked the clerk, an ex-military guy, about the price and if it was a functioning weapon.  He said "yes".  Dumfounded, I asked how could they sell a "fully automatic", .50 caliber machine gun, and the rounds too?  He said it was legal.  People that have the money can buy this stuff.  I was amazed.  There were several other weapons their too.  Fully automatic M16's, a fully automatic M60 machine gun, fully automatic Browning machine gun.  Even an M40(?) grenade launcher!!!   I was "blown" away.

I always thought it was against the law to own a fully automatic weapon?  If it's not against the law it should be!

I'm pretty sure that legally buying a fully automatic weapon requires a Federal license.

That would make sense.  Wonder how hard it is to obtain one?  The clerk never indicated that such a license was needed.  Unless that requirement was "implied" during our conversation and I fail to pick up on it.  Which can happen at my age!

As I understand it, it takes MONTHS of paperwork and twiddling your thumbs. The good news is that you will never need another colonoscopy when they are done "processing" you. Did I mention cash? Lots of cash for "stamps" for those goodies you describe. Also, I think those beauties you described had to be built before 1986 to be legal. Disclaimer: I am not an authority on these matters.

I have had my eyes on a Barrett M82 for sale at a gun store in Garland for several years...they do not fly off the shelf. Besides, it is damned hard to conceal one of those on your person. :)

Here you go, Deep. If you must have a 50 cal, this won't help. If your itch could be scratched with 5.56 NATO and you have 10 grand (mas or menos), this might be the one for you. This looks like a nice weapon (see the video) and it is totally legal. WARNING TO GUN-GRABBERS: Do not click on this link until you have an ample supply of Depends at hand and are wearing one. You WILL wet yourself...or worse!

P.S. - If you find one, this is no more hassle to buy than your previous handgun or rifle purchase.

A collector might buy them.  My dad collects guns, most of which he's never even fired.  He has a AR-15, as posted before, that he merely drags out to show people.

I don't care what people collect.  All I want is that there is some sort of prohibition for people or a terror list; and a severe delay for people formerly on a terror list.

Other than that, collect away collectors.

I have an acquaintance that has an arsenal of fully automatic weapons plus the land to fire them on.

Once you get the paperwork to purchase full autos the Feds may check up on you at any time, and the weapon had better be exactly where it is supposed to be when it's listed and when its ownership is approved.

Its an extremely regulated activity owning these weapons.
