That was most excellent; mostly about the 2 high schools mentioned, but plenty about North Texas as well.  It was so cool to see Abner Haynes saying, "that's when I fell in love with North Texas", when talking about all the students who went to Houston to support them when nobody down there would rent them a hotel and they had to sleep on the train.

Starting the 65 season, two players (from Decatur) who had been going to Fred Moore joined the team. One of them went from an all district (HM) at guard his junior year, to an all district WR by his senior year. Also by his senior year he was voted "best all around" by the student body. One district school (Bowie) took exception to his presence on the field. When Decatur took the field in Bowie, the team was greeted by an effigy hanging from one of the light poles, dressed like a Decatur football player with our player's number on it (80). The week before the game, the Wichita Falls Record News had predicted a close game. Final score, 51-8.  Bowie made the mistake of (as the line goes from Blazing Saddles) "shooting Mongo".
