If nothing else, Mac was a hell of a motivational speaker

Did Mac give you a boner every time?

Dickey - failed because he didn't upgrade his coaches, offense strategy, and recruiting at the right time, and he didn't play well with boosters.

WHAT?! Dickey lost coaches every year because we paid jack.  Canales made more money as an OC than Dickey ever made as a HC.  There are several people int he front office now who make more money than our coordinators did at the time.  We complain about playing one "body bag" game a year, this is what Dickey got to play in his first 7 years:

UTx2, Alabama, OU x3, Texas Tech x4, Arizona St, aTm, Kansas, Kansas St x2, LSU, Baylor x4, TCUx2, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado

ETA:

You are 100% right about his fan relations.  He didn't make the transition to the new glad handling mode that HC's now have to do.

Kansas is historically bad, though I don't recall if that games was in one of their rare bright periods.

Baylor of that era shouldn't be considered a body bag game and neither should TCU. K State wasn't always decent, was that game during their awful period or in the good times?

The first time (2000), K-State was very good.  The second (2005), not so much.  But Dickey's teams were not remotely competitive in those games either time.
