Big West 2.0 with crappy travel if you aren't on the West Coast. Plus some real duds in the West Division and that's coming from a UNT fan. The Mountain Division is the only one that looks good.

If UNT were to stumble upon an invite to the MWC, please, please accept.

However, we would need to be in a division with NM, COSt, AFA... not Hawaii & FresnoSt.   But, even if we were in that wacky division, I'd be fine with that too.

MWC is the perceived better conference...  Even if it's being carried by Boise for now.

That West Division is horrible. Trips to Hawaii for two Texas schools every other year in football alone? No thanks.

100% this.

Though I think the big12 set themselves up for another couple years with the addition of the conference championship game. LHN still looms large over many of the universities and I don't think they appreciate it. So, it will eventually happen. When it does happen we need to make sure we are putting the death grip onto Baylor & TCU's coattails. SMU will be battling for a piece of that same coattail. If they get that carpet ride that shoes us into AAC. So, it's a win-win for UNT because schools like we thought we were getting ready to be in a conference with like ECU, Tulane, Tulsa, etc. will have nowhere to go like they did with the move from CUSA to AAC. We just need the big12 to hurry up and implode while we consistently put together a winning athletic program.

They'll raid the AAC and maybe some of the western-most MWC schools like COSt & AFA to reform.   SMU would likely be included, and UNT would not.

If the Big12-2 implodes, it would be best if it did so when UNT is C-USA champs, not #128 in all of FBS.  Thankfully, it's about 'what have you done for me lately?' and not, 'what have you done historically?'

Big 12 won't raid the ACC because there is no difference in money or competition.  The only real discussion of schools leaving the ACC is Clemson or FSU to the SEC.  Why?

First, geography.  Second, the SEC is the only conference they could go to that wouldn't damage them too much economically upon leaving.  The Big 12 is in shambles enough.

Can you see Florida State rolling over to Texas and Oklahoma the way patsies like Texas Tech and Baylor do over money?  Hell no.  It wouldn't happen.  Ditto Clemson.

The situation for the Big 12 is so pitiful that the schools under consideration to join them are Houston, Cincinnati, and BYU.  In other words, schools that will march to whatever tune Texas and OU play...and, since 2011, that has been Texas and OU getting a bigger cut of the cash than everyone else.

(Note:  I don't really think BYU would take less money.  They have their own television station, too...and, additionally, their own religion.)

I'm not talking about the existing Big12 raiding the ACC.
I was addressing your scenario where the Big12 implodes, leaving TCU/Baylor/Tech/etc... hanging around.   Those schools would try to keep formation and fill spots via AAC (talking Cincinnati & Memphis, not ACC).

Okay, but at that point the P5 will contract to the P4.

Probably.   But that new conference would immediately be the best of the rest.    And if it's formed within the next 2-3 years, UNT will most-certainly be on the outside looking in.
However, I could see a scenario where SMU continues to flounder, UNT wins C-USA 2 years in a row in 2018-19, attendance & $$ explodes, basketball improves, and would be considered a nice addition to this new conference over SMU.  This would be a dream scenario where everything goes right (and when has that ever happened here?) but isn't out of the realm of possibility.  The first 2 things that would need to happen in order for this scenario to play out would be for UNT to make immediate strides this season, and for the Big12-2 to agree to stand pat for a few more years.

We'd need to win, sell tickets, and increase our budgets.  This is also where a new AD with good connections could really, really help.

Seriously people, why would this new MWC include UNT?  Our perception sucks.  One winning season in 10 years???  Now CUSA is watered down and we can't even keep up with remaining schools!  It's going to take several winning seasons, a CUSA championship or two, and 25K average attendance in Apogee to get any conference to look our way.  We need to be top dog in our conference in multiple years and multiple sports.

lets quit dreaming and win some ball games first!

Why would that "new MWC" take UTSA and TSU-SM?  Either way, that conference ain't happenin'.

I agree. If we had very good basketball and decent football attendance (very solid 25k), I think we would have a chance at an offer if they decided to expand. Of course decent football attendance would require a pretty decent football team.

I think a big part of any offer would be based upon our location and emerging academic reputation. Of course we appear to be a long way from any of these good things happening on the court/field, but Smatresk's UNLV history could end up being a big plus if our athletic fortunes somehow suddenly change.

Can't spell Hawaii?  Really?

You're too stupid to realize that is actually the proper way to spell Hawai'i. The Hawaiian language like many Pacific Islander languages use a lot of apostrophes.

I didn't realize the original poster was a native Hawaiian.

Seriously, sounds like you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
