We have a brand problem. The brand is weak and tarnished. You change the brand and everything else falls into place including wins. So I want the person who is hired to either have experience with that, or want to spend the money to make that the 1st thing they hire to change.

I understand, but I am concerned that a new AD will come in and want to change everything not dictated by the university, branding wise.  I hope the brand can be improved without changing it.

- I know that there are some who never have liked emphasizing "Mean Green" over "Eagles", but Mean Green is unique (albeit not well protected outside of collegiate sports), and all it will take is a good SID to resolve the "chicken or the egg" problem with Mean Joe.  We are the Mean Green, and our mascot is Scrappy the Eagle.*

- I know that there are some which would prefer us to be known as "UNT" instead of "North Texas", but for me, "North Texas" emphasizes continuity of the history of the school.  No, "North Texas" didn't look good on a helmet; it took too long, but RV finally put the SOW on the helmets.  Stick with it, don't change it to "UNT".  Similar to the Alabama/Crimson Tide analogy, it's OK for UC Berkeley to call themselves "Cal" for sports, so...

- Speaking of the SOW, I'm not worried that it might go away, as that is part of the university branding.  And it does somewhat provide continuity to the "Flying Worm".  But... whatever happened to the 3D version of the SOW that was supposed to be added?

- And maybe we'll be spared changing to yet another shade of green, since that is also part of the university branding.

* OK, that's something that needs to change - retire Eugene Levy Scrappy and get a new costume much more like the one before!  With a jersey!

  • Losing
  • The fact that we are shunned for supporting UNT sports by our own family, friends, peers
  • When the higher powers of UNT athletics turns their head when the die hard's point to problems
  • UNT sitting in their own mess, while upcoming programs such as TCU and Houston take the cake
  • Listening to this god awful past coaching hires tell us to F off or that UNT is to hard to recruit
  • Losing to FCS teams
  • The lack of customer service to the alumni and potentially interested in becoming ticket holders
  • Lack of respect through media in the country
  • How we lean on 2013 and the early years as the good ol' days (I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, I already have a hard time arguing why my team can't repeat from years ago)

I could go on and on... But I am so darn tired of arguing with people about supporting UNT football and being severely embarrassed when I put the mean green on the TV and seeing them get smoked in front of my friends. I have no way of promoting to potential fans, when the proof is in the pudding....

Not entirely different that places like Baylor (pre briles), TCU (pre Fran/Patterson), Tech, smoo, etc...  They have all been doormats for 20 years.  Some of them have recently pulled themselves out of the depths and we act like they have storied histories.  All it takes is a little prolonged winning and this thing will also turn around (see Baylor, TCU, etc...).

The last coaching staff and the current coaching staff are the first two that have been given a real chance to succeed in recent times.  The last staff had it going in the right direction and then shat the bed.

Let's hope Littrell can get us back to 2013 levels, and then build on it instead of going down the drain.
