I'm sure some of you will make this into a "OMG he's a Democrat" post but a former fraternity brother of mine and former SGA President Dakota Carter won the runoff for the nomination for Texas State Board of Education Place 6. He's a great guy and in residency and has some great ideas for Texas education, and he's not a nutjob like that woman who thought Obama was a gay prostitute.

Anyway, give him a look. And if you're in Houston, remember his name come November.

Dakota Carter

And hopefully not one who thinks the world started 6000 years ago and want to screw up all science, biology, geology, and history textbooks. One crazy book that appeared in Florida schools lately referred to slaves as African workers. that particular AMERICA HISTORY textbook also mentioned Moses more than Jefferson.. who was President, Vice-President, wrote the Declaration of Independence,  and had great influence on the Constitution.... Hard to believe but true.

The Texas School board has immense power (influence) in the USA on textbooks because the State of Texas is the largest purchaser of textbooks in America... Textbook companies often try to please our state to get their name on our 4-6 book adoption list...... Other states do not do what we do in that regard...  Then local Texas districts pick a book from those lists for every subject... That is a HUGE reason to pay attention to who gets elected or selected to that board.....don't want some crazy extremist group controlling it.    Other states often buy those same books also... Most people do not realize the real power of the Texas State school board..... don't want crazies like the one mentioned in above post on it.
