What makes you think this is the place you want to ask?

But, I'll bite. What are you using it for?   Have you ever shot before?

Go to a gun range where you can rent different types of firearms and see what you're comfortable with.

I'll third it! Eagle Gun Range in Lewisville is hard to beat. Prices for all things are competitive, they have a good selection of rentals and a good schedule of CLASSES taught by competent instructors. Again, think through what your objective is before you think about a specific type of gun. They have a website...check it out.

No, I have no connection to Eagle other than I patronize it from time to time to keep my technique and shooting eye sharp. It was recommended to me by a LEO and his advice was spot on. That aside, I like the name!

P.S. Here is a link to Eagle's Rental Gun list, FYI:

I actually live in Lewisville, so thats awesome

i asked here because i am a former college student, and I know how someone probably knows someone, that knows someone selling a gun. No one better to ask than university students. Huge network of folks. Plus I'd rather deal with someone closer to my age and intellect.

I have shot a few times, not much. My buddy from NC has several guns etc, I'd consider him an expert on the subject and he suggested the fns-9. He said he has the fns-9c

he said a good deal would be 350-400

I asked if any brands to avoid he said "Yeah. Avoid taurus, hi-point, kel-tec. If you find something text me & i'd be happy to advise you. Glock, ruger, fn & smith & wesson are all winners. Look for 9mm or 45 acp, calibers. I'd avoid .40."

Nothing wrong with a .40.

Also, Jessie Duff is almost certainly a better shot than your buddy and she a Taurus pro shooter...

His response about that yesterday was

"Caliber is the size of the bullet. 9mm is the most common in usa & europe. It is a tame recoilling round. 45acp is bigger & more powerful. .40 is in between, but not as fun & more expensive."

I'd suggest going to forums.officer.com

I've heard mixed reviews on Tarus.   Nothing wrong  with a Kel Tec, I've carried one off duty for years.  Glocks are simple but work. Glock is also producing single stack guns now.  Ruger is also a great gun, and I'm planning to purchase one for off duty.

Hi Point is a POS.

As far as caliber, if it's for personal carry, stick with 9. With a smaller frame, .40 and .45 will kick like a mule.

I'm a Glock guy, 17 in the house and 19 inside the waistband. Easy to take down and clean, manageable recoil gets you back on target, and plenty of rounds in those 9mm double stack magazines.

If you're a first-timer, you probably want a 9mm.  The smaller ones for concealing are going to be harder to shoot because the recoil will kick harder... making you less reliable.   But, if you're looking to conceal-carry, the bigger guns make that a little more difficult.  Depends on what you're using it for.  I only have mine for home defense.

I have a Taurus Pro pt24/7, and it is a great gun for that purpose for the price I paid.

I agree with those saying to try shooting different ones at a range.

hope that helps!

EDIT:. Read your buddy's comment about avoiding Taurus...  They had a bad reputation not long ago, but have upped their game recently. I've taken mine to the range a handful of times & have only had it jam on me 2-3 times.

The Glock 19 is about all I can comfortably carry concealed at my 5'8", 180 lbs. The Glock 26 is too damned small for my hand...these are the kind of things you find out by renting and shooting guns you think you might like. Regarding ammo, even a 9mm round will get a little "snappy" in a smaller weapon. I shoot nothing heavier than 124 gr JHP.

If you get something compact for personal carry, you will need the magazine extender for control.  The extra inch for a place to rest your pinky makes all the difference.

But, I still say we're being trolled.

This would have to be a pretty elaborate troll. For me to google "unt message board" on google, then to sign up, and post copy/paste from my friend

frankly i am disappointed no one has said "i got a gun for 350" or suggested a friend that they know would sell a gun

i want a gun, figured someone on here would have one or know someone selling one

ps baring some 3rd party run, hillary is going to win, hate to break it to you. Trump has a snowballs chance in hell of winning electoral vote.

Not really.  If you were seriously asking about firearms and purchasing one, why have you yet to go to a law enforcement and military message board, with hundreds of members with extensive firearms knowledge?  It's not that difficult to create an account.

PS - What does the last part of your post have to do with anything?

Troll, go get your shinebox.

We got a guy on here that can get you a cheap shirt, probably with a picture of a gun.   Would that work?

Its funny someone suggested I was trolling, yet most of the more recent posts are people trolling me

So your very first post on a board is 'sell me a gun' and you don't think it reasonable that might cause an alert on the troll radar?

Weird thread...  Asking for advice isn't ...  but "Sell me one is". ..

..

I have a .38 .. never shot it... made in 1890....   (no brand name)  [Grandfathers ].. afraid to...  only in desperation would I but have a few shells.... Last shot over 50 years ago. . Don't recommend it. ....

Shot my son's .38 about a month ago ... hit a baby bottle 40 feet away first and only shot .. I am either very good or lucky . suspect the second.

I am not what one guy here claims I am... I've shot 100'a if not 1000's of rounds. Just hate to see people carrying one that has no business with one. Some people are WAAY too careless.  All rural or semi-rural people have guns and know to use them..,

I won't deny it is peculiar to sign up to a college message board to ask for a gun. I figured at least 1 or 2 people would have a decent gun for a beginner they could part ways with, or at the least know someone that had a gun for sale. I moved to TX Jan of 2015, haven't met many people outside of coworkers

Sincere advice: Since you live in Lewisville, go by Eagle Gun Range when you have a chance and check it out. They do sell those rental guns, but I don't know how frequently. They will be very gentle with you. Scope it out. Then take Rudy's advice too. You will ultimately find a well-maintained used weapon for a reasonable price. Check out this organization: http://www.dallasarms.com/  . One of my former colleagues is a Director. Their next show is June 11 & 12. Good luck.
