Like the size but wish he showed more catches in his film if he is the QB's favorite target. Seemed a touch slow off the line but that can be taught and improved

TE,TE thought this offense did not have much use for a tight end. I could easily see us going after this position with the idea of moving them to the o-line.

Yes but kid would need to pack on a bunch of weight

A TE offer from us is equivalent to an Hback which we will use. Think of them as much more versatile Fullbacks.

This. I think the kid looks like a real nice get, but I wonder what the discussion was what his role exactly will be. I am sure both the coaches and the kid have a plan mind. Could even be on the defensive side, but with how much blocking he was doing in the vid, I guess O-line will be it. Then again, this article says he will be getting more fullback like work this season http://www.tdtnews.com/sports/article_05e3d7ba-222a-11e6-8bd5-dba51c91c6d7.html

Look at the emergence of Kelvin Smith this spring as a "jumbo" inside WR. I'd bet the staff wants someone like Lutz to develop and follow Smith - and potentially be even more of conventional "H" back who can be versatile in alignment, causing defenses a ton of problems.

He has the frame should not be a problem.

Quick feet n a tackle is nice.

I would say the chances are slim on Mansell backing out of Iowa to come here but stranger things have happened. Good Addition to the class, looking forward to see what this kid can do

If he can put up similar numbers next year I wouldn't be surprised to see us offer. Reminds me a lot of Wilson

I am really skeptical of completely getting rid of a TE.

I mean, we will likely still pick up TEs. Just will play flexed off the line or in the backfield and we'll call them inside receivers.

Those Hudl highlights aren't TE highlights.  They're OT highlights with a few passes mixed in.

Wonder if he's being brought in as a tackle project?

Based on the article from the Temple paper linked above, I would say he will be playing TE/WR and not tackle this year.  His coach, Bob Shipley (is this the father of Jordan?), states that he runs great routes and has good hands.  Not quotes for an OT.

6'6", 220, and 4.8 speed? Yeah, let him catch.

They just need to be decently athletic enough to were he can be to a much lesser extent of Gronk. He can be moved to slot and out match (size wise) a corner or be pulled in on a 3 technique. I dont like the thought of completely taking them out either because you need a TE on the goal line formation

Mismatch vs linebackers too. And 4.8 speed is more than adequate for a big dude. Just need to know how good his hands are and if he can add about 25 lbs.

“Being more involved in the passing game is attractive,” Lutz said. “Kansas was looking at me more as a blocker. I want to catch the ball.”

Picked the system.
