I got to Apogee and found a parking place only to be called away.  Did Kenny Buyers play yesterday ?  D back ?  Receiver ?

Looked OK. Made a pretty good catch on a deep comeback. I think he may have caught a little slant as well. Targeted a few other times but doesn't have that natural attack the ball instinct and that is kind of to be expected right now in the transition. Unlike what Vito is saying, he will not be starting at slot. He will be a good guy to have on the 2-deep for depth.

I am hearing he will eventually start at slot.  Just a prediction.  I guess it is assumed he will be a lot better once he really learns the position.  I could see him being a good blocking wr.

kaplow! Agreed. He needs to find a niche as a punt returner, backup nickel guy, and/or 2nd team slot. He is a decent athlete coming off of a back injury. He is not a World beater and the faster people put that together and stop talking about him rather than other contributors with a much higher ceiling the better off we will be.

I don't think that being a good slot receiver is all about running like the wind. It's more about hooking up with the QB mentally if you have the requisite skills. I guess we'll find out if he's got what it takes in 4-6 months.

If Buyers is playing on both sides of the ball, this team is about what I thought they'd be.

Wasn't Kenny Buyers one of the best tacklers on the team before he got injured ?  All I remember is that he made one clutch 1-on-1 tackle after another before getting injured.

I am guessing either that he did not come back all the way from injury.   Or, we are stacked at DB.

The latter would be great.  But, not sure I can believe that.

the word on the street (THIS SITE) is that he has the skill set to be a cover 2 type corner who covers the flats and triggers on short passes.  He excelled in the past defensive scheme because this is what was asked of him.  Now the scheme is completely different the CB's are up in the WR's face bump and run type of coverage and this does not fit into the skill set that he has.

Perhaps it is a matter of scheme and nothing more. Or maybe the inside receivers coach saw something in KB's athletic ability that made him say: While good at DB this kid would be great at slot. I wouldn't read too much more into it than coaches assessing talent and putting that talent where it could help the most.

Imagine for a moment that Buyers never got a shot at slot - goes pro - they run him out at slot and it works. This place would start gnashing its teeth ala Olawale about how the staff doesn't recognize or put talent in the right places.  And, finally, no harm in trying him there - it isn't like he's going to forget how to play DB after 15 days of playing slot.
