I will be the first person to admit I wear Mean Green sunglasses and bleed green (what ever shade we are this year) but I am feeling depressed about our athletics.  If Benford is allowed to stay RV should leave.  I am not totally sold on the football program like I have been in the past.  I am thinking three wins this year in football and another losing year in basketball.  I do think it is time for RV to step down for the good of UNT.  He has lost confidence in the program to even people like me that have rolled my eyes at UNT90 in the past.  I am beginning to understand what he feels.  I still have not renewed by football tickets for next year.  I enjoy the people I sit around, the band, dancers and yes even new Scrappy.  But to watch the product on the field it makes it hard to put out the money.  I will not buy season tickets for basketball until things improve.  I can buy my ticket at the door (always a circus) and get a good seat.  There is something wrong when you sit up next to the walkway and can hear the players bouncing the basketball.  Oh well just wondering if I am alone or I need some more green Kool-Aid?

Trust me, you are not alone. You are expressing what a lot of us "diehards" feel right now. I too, have not bought BB season tickets in two years and haven't even attended a game during that time. As many have said before, we are a joke, a punchline when it comes to athletics. It's embarrassing to say anything related to NT athletics. People just sort of look at you funny when you do and usually have no reply because we are irrelevant. This may very well be the worst time in NT athletic history since we dropped down to 1-AA.  Yes, many can point to the upgrade in facilities and I agree with that. But what good does it do to have all these nice facilities if no one is attending events. I agree that RV's time has passed and it is time to infuse new blood into this thing before it becomes terminal. We all better pray that Littrell is the answer for football. I'm sick and tired of perpetual rebuilding and the perpetual wait for "next year."  I haven't renewed for FB either and may very well not. We'll see, but for the first time in forever, I am not excited for much of anything related to UNT.

A house was burning in my neighborhood a few weeks ago, and as a group of us were standing there watching, some guy I didn't know looked at my Mean Green cup and started giggling. People even find reason to laugh at us while their neighbor's house is burning down. I normally would have responded strongly to the punk, but I obviously have no Mean Green ammunition. It has gotten that bad.

No, you're not alone. You're just "minute." I'm not spending another dime on season tickets nor am I donating. I'm not going to another bball game until Benford is gone. I'm almost at the point of completely withdrawing all support until RV is gone. It's a depressing time to be a UNT grad. College athletics is absolutely exploding and here we are sputtering. The problems needing fixing are so apparent and it just isn't happening. The level of incompetence is so high that it makes me lean torwards 90's reasoning of nothing coming to fruitiom until Rick is gone. I mean, look at the man's track record as our athletic director. Many things have changed over the years, but the common variable in our losing equation stands almost exclusively alone. Yet, here he is still calling shots. What may even be more unprecedented is his salary vs his work ethic/results. There is nothing left to say about it, but letting the dialogue fade is EXACTLY what Rick wants. So, it has to be brought up in conversation. If it gets brought up in every thread then so be it. It deserves to be.

This is your best post ever...

So many of us have walked your path, excited about the idea of being good in sports that people care about because of all of the perceived advantages we should have a large, public university in DFW. We give it decades worth of money and time...only to get $hit on over and over. Finally, after getting numb to it, you finally realize that things you care about aren't what your alma mater cares abut at all. So we walk away...
