Yeah.

And just think, there are real life people OUTSIDE of the athletic department supporting this abortion of an athletic director. It's amazing. Everyone must jump, and that includes the heavyweight donors. It's a money pit until proven otherwise. I was waiting on this exact decision to reup/move up on the giving list. I'm not doing either now. This radiates to football for me as well. I'll be buying tix at the gate this year. *slow clap*

5 years

400,000 salary

2,000,000 million dollar mediocre gig

Then Next Season

Benford can start looking for another coaching job if the team sucks

Collect a check

Maybe get lucky and win the CUSA championship. On top of that get a raise and a contract extension.

Listen to RV talk about how he had faith the whole time in Benford

And watch RV get an extension, too, since one of his revenue hires also earned an extension...

Love all of the over the top comments based on an article full of the author's speculation.  Know what's wrong with America today?  People jumping to  conclusions before the facts play out.  Watch the new "30 for 30" on the Duke lacrosse team for Exhibit A.

Is it though? Brett seems to get a good feel on things. While said as speculation, that doesn't mean there isn't evidence pointing toward this.

God forbid we lose players off this once a generation mean green team that won 12 freaking games and lost 20!

And to any of the "people making the decisions" who may read this topic... Eat a big bag of D's for ruining mean green basketball.

Amen.  If Benford is the only thing keeping these players at UNT then let them leave.

You know things are bad when you get a "this is what's wrong with this country" post.

Yes, but this IS a message board.

I would encourage another round of emails to Smatresk before the decision is made public. Just be prepared for those emails to end up in the paws of one Rick Villarreal.

You forget Benford is a terrible coach that could have the best talent in CUSA and would still finish .500 or below.

And he won't have tre best talent next year. Not even close.

10-20 without the two TOTAL training wheel games, and 1-12 on the road with that monumental victory at utsa. This guy is just not going to get any better no matter who is on the team.

It bears repeating that Benford's D1 record was 10-20 this year...

The most confusing thing about this whole situation is that one winning season in five was not enough to keep Mac around, why would a winning season next season be enough to keep Benford around? If it is, then that is a huge problem. If it isn't, then why even keep him around for next season since the outcome will not be enough to keep him?

Because RV would have to get out of his chair, walk down the stairs, hop on a plane to travel the US to find the next coach. Instead he will just sit there, be cheap and continue to collect a check.

The only reason is RV's continued stubbornness in not admitting a mistake.

As recently repeated in an active thread, RV was the first to roll out the "it took JJ 6 years,  that's why it's taking Benford so long" excuse 2 years ago. Of course it was then repeated by the usual AD shills on this forum. That was done to cover for his own mistake.  He knew the ridiculousness of it when he said it.

Do you really think RV is ready to take any accountability?

I bet you, or anyone else of this forum, for that matter, can't find one quote from RV accepting Blake for one thing gone bad with this program. A quote that says "This is my fault/responsibility" without a follow up excuse immediately attached.

What is your conclusion on this hot garbage situation? Please, enlighten us.

UNT could do this in a NY minute. We are not poor.

If Benford stays, it will be because of Rick Villarreal's continued refusal to admit a terrible, awful mistake due to his ego. Nothing else.

Oh I agree, but the sentence isn't about could or should...its about will/would. We aren't going to do this in any timeframe you want to mention. Why? Because I believe some BOR members look at $325k and freak out at how much that could be used towards.

When there is no will, there is no way...we don't have the will to pay off another revenue coach's buyout, or even the AD who put us in this position. Instead, we let 17 people decide if he stays. Its not gonna change, either. They own the AD. And the BOR isn't ponying up $325k to pay off this hire when they know he can wait a year and it will just not get renewed and the budget stays intact, with no BOR appropriated funds necessary. The UNT Family rejoices that the BOR continues to stand up to evil athletics, while the BOR stand up for the UNT 17 for taking this off their plates to keep the UNT Family overwhelmingly pleased. And the UNT 17 stand up for their good ol' pal RV, because he allows them access and has fleeced them out of millions, which none of them want to admit.

Saw this article yesterday. There is a lot in here about the right and fair way to run a program with expectations and accountability.
