I know his injuries are a major concern for Dallas, but what if he does a "Gronk" and makes it back better than ever? 105.3 Mike Fisher reported this morning that Chip Kelly has a big interest in Dunbar. I would hate it if he was no longer a Cowboy, but I will root for the guy no matter where he plays. Lance is a great guy and should have a great NFL career.

I cant help thinking.. If Lance signs in San Francisco and plays well without injury?, Dallas must just be jinxed. Other players struggled here and play well in other cities.(Andre Holmes, Sterling Moore, Danny Amendola, etc.)

My opinion is that it is a negotiation ploy to generate some interest. He needs some leverage to keep the Cowboys from screwing him royally on his contract using his past injuries as an excuse. I hope his agent finds another team or two to talk with, just to keep the Jones boys somewhat honest. Lance belongs in Dallas.

Has Lance been back since his NT playing days ?  I know the NFL season overlaps the NT season but has anyone seen him ?  Does his name appear as a Mean Green club donor ?

I've seen him on the sidelines a few times and he stopped down to chat with my daughter (then, 4yrs old) about Scrappy and the Cowboys at last year's spring game.

I didn't see anyone mention his Mean Green Club membership.  Anyone ?

He cannot be as big of an asset to the school if he's an athletic booster financially.   Zach Orr isn't either.   In turn, they can have contact with prospects.
Maybe one day after his playing years, he'll join.

Hold the phone....

A professional football player cannot contribute to his alma mater but he CAN contact prospects ?  Is it alright for a professional math instructor to contribute to his alma mater and also have contact with prospect ?

I just don't understand that.  I understood that nobody, but nobody can have contact with prospects.  Is that incorrect ?  And why can't a person in any walk of life that's knocking down $250,000 (?) per year contribute to whatever he wishes ?

I need some remedial 'splainin'.

If you contribute to the Mean Green Club, you are a "booster".  You cannot have contact with any players or prospects if you are a "booster".

So, maybe it's better if these guys don't become "boosters" just yet, while they have alot of sway with these younger guys.

Wait, NFL players can't be boosters for their alma mater, is that what I'm reading?

Sure they can!
But if they're not, they can potentially have a greater impact because they wouldn't fall under the NCAA's "booster" rules like you and me.

First, former players are by definition boosters.  They fall under the following clause:

Quote

(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting the institution’s
intercollegiate athletics program;

The football team (if all goes well) should be a major organization promoting the institutions intercollegiate athletics programs.  The last big recruiting bruhaha to happen at Miami was former players being accused of contacting prospective student athletes.

Second, once you meet any of the criteria to become a booster as far as the NCAA is concerned you never stop being a booster.

Third, you can't contact any player who has eligibility left even if they signed a NLI at another school because they are still considered potential prospects.

I'd hate to see him leave, but I have no doubt Jerry is trying to use the injury as an excuse to screw him.

Even if he gets the league minimum, it's not a screwing. Its good money. I want to see him get paid too but he was/is a #3 RB coming off a big injury and there is a salary cap every team deals with.

So a whole lot of us don't know what we're talking about.  Now, back to my question; does Lance Dunbar contribute to his alma mater ?  Is he a member of the Mean Green Club, or does he just stop by and expect to be treated like a celebrity ?
