NT Daily article suggesting we keep Benford one more year.

First of all, the article is titled "Pay The Man." Like pay the man his buyout? Is this dude under the impression that Benford won't get paid by us if we fire him? Also, "Rolling in the Deep" was not the number 1 song anymore when the 2011-2012 season started, and LeBron winning his first championship and the first Avengers movie had not happened yet when that season ended. How dare he disrespect my first season as a UNT basketball fan with historical innacuracies!

But I do agree that he will be back next year.

No, Benford definitely does not deserve anything based on his coaching history.  What Benford did as an assistant obviously didn't translate  to being a successful head coach and is totally irrelevant.

This is an opinion piece, but is very poorly supported.  The objective is to win games, not just recruit a few college level players. Benford inherited what was ballyhooed as one of the most talented teams ever at NT, that only made it obvious he was not ready for a head coaching job.   He has assembled a team with promise that with a couple of additions should be very good next year.  However, he has not demonstrated anything as coach that would lead anyone to believe that NT will be better than a .500 in CUSA club.

Benford was given an home oc schedule this year that should have been almost all easy victories.  The team failed miserably against bottom D1schools at home and only won one game away the whole year.    Home victories included Sam Houston 17-13, Missouri Valley St. 6-25, Nicholls ST 9-22 and  a loss at home to Troy 9-21.

I like Benford's attitude and believe he has substantially improved from being maybe the worst coach in college basketball his first year at NT.  However, in four years he has demonstrated little to make anybody think he can ever be a winning coach.

Is Torie a female sports writer? Is she related to Lauren Przybyl or Rick Villarreal?

Inquiring minds need to know?

Why don't you just make up stuff like you often do and answer it for your own.  Truth never seems to stand in your way.  Just make it up and then when called on it, just ignore the challenge and post completely stupid responses. Seems to be your style these days.

Yes, but the right opportunity is as an assistant coach behind a qualified head coach.

Or maybe I'll go the rah rah rah sis boom bah route and only post positive stuff even when there is nothing positive happening. Cause guess what? That is "just making it up," you know. But that's making it up your way, so then I'll blame everything on past UNT employees when anyone challenges Rick Villarreal.

I'm thinking you would then be telling me how right I am.

Cool...so I'll listen to the advice of a TCU transfer that never experienced JJ's era and was given a girl's name.....just because.

Who talks sports like Lauren Przybyl...

Apparently you don't understand Jackassery or question marks...

Threads like this remind me of the recent Republican debates.  We have become so divided, that we fight amongst ourselves to the point that it becomes childish and tit for tat. We, as do most Americans, want a government that functions in all our best interests.  But like our federal government, we have a dysfunctional athletic department that seems indifferent to the wants and needs of it's constituents. Therefore, we fight amongst ourselves when we all want the same thing. To win.  However, that requires effective leadership with a vision which has been sorely lacking in both instances.  Perhaps we can come together as a nation, and also a Mean Green Nation, to once again achieve greatness. Hopefully a leader will emerge to do just that.

GO MEAN GREEN!

Except one side wants that ineffective, dysfunctional AD left alone and in place. Forever. Or at least until their little buddy reaches a state pension.

I was hoping he'd use what he learned under those head coaches here. Particularly Marquete. I thought he would build a line-up focused on combo guards who were gritty and tough. I thought we'd play tough D and grind out games using a motion offense.

Instead he's tried to build a program off of transfers and quick fixes. There has been no continuity and the program has suffered.

There is no reason you give this guy another year. There is no progress.

I'd like for March to mean something around here again.

The concern is they sign him to a three year extension to give him that final year.

I don't think that they have to sign an extension.  My understanding is he has one year already left on his contract.  The roster is pretty much set with one commit and two transfers.  We don't really graduate that much.  So the same team is basically in place.  Recruiting damage due to not signing an extension is not as big an issue here given where the roster is.

If Mike Thomas comes on then our roster is set, although it wouldn't be the end of the world if we replaced Pittman and Fuller...

You are assuming that no players will "go pro" or "decide to move to another school" in the off season. History shows us that, on a Benford team, one or both of those things will likely happen.
