I wouldn't count on this guy this year.

I wouldnt count him out either...I'm hearing Its looking like he will play, but the source is kinda weak at times.  he also indicated on twitter that he is ready for the spring game.  Doesn't confirm that he will play this season, but it sounds like someone that is preparing to play.

Access to what exactly?

I agree...could also be a reason wallace left?  Like someone posted...why would a potential starter quit?  Wallace has been around long enough to graduate, but still...new coaching, opportunity to start...

The NCAA enacted a rule to specifically address his situation.

Look for him in live action in 2017.

Thought we went through this...maybe you should reach out to Litrell and English and tell them to give up.

There's some people that give up, and some that try and have to be told no.

Well, that's what I'm wondering.  why would a starter quit ?  I don't think he's able to transfer, is he ?  And even if he feels he will get beaten out for a starting job, with  3 (?) years invested it seems odd to quit now.  I have to think there were external problems not football related.

If he graduates, he can transfer.  He's been at UNT 4 years, so he could have enough hours.

Are you speaking of Sir Calvin? He may be graduating. Dude is very smart. Math major I think.

McNair has a child in Florida which may explain why he left.

Appealing a rule that specifically addresses your exact situation rarely goes well. UNT can't get appeals granted that should be, much less an appeal that a rule specifically addresses.

So I like to imagine what these comparisons would look like if we could stand these guys next to each other in a line.  Excluding the freshman and Bryce English who may not play Day 1, I made two lineups.  One shifts the comparison in their "favor" (not really a competition, but you know what I mean) and the other in ours.  I won't speculate too much on what it means but, as has been pointed out, the average difference isn't TOO extreme.

From what I was told, Wallace is just hanging them up. I came on here and informed folks of that after the meet n greet last month.

5-7 pound differential is irrelevant water weight/mild constipation. After that, it becomes a legitimate difference.

What's your point?  What are you adding to the forum/convo?  Are they wasting their time?  Are they stupid for trying?

We saw that the rule was in place.  Obviously there is also an appeal process in place.  We know, because English said on a video that they were trying to get him to play in 2016.  I would assume the NCAA didn't respond that there was a rule in place for that situation so get lost, because he would have known about the rejection immediately.  There wouldn't be any waiting or consideration.

For some reason, an appeal was sent and is being considered.  Thats all we know.  It's not a yes. It's not a no.

You left off two of our players:

DE Joseph Ozougwu, who is now reported to be up to 230 lbs. and Bryce English.

Plus, I think the weight comparison for DE's is ridiculous.  Top professional DE's are usually 250-280 range and two of the best, Von Miller and Khalil Mack weigh in at 249 and 247 lbs.

My point is he shouldn't be in the conversation as playing this year. Pretty obvious.

They are similar because Reffett helped coach at Memphis and talked ad nauseum about having to use undersized DL at his previous stops and why they ran the defenses they ran.  Are our DL and Memphis' DL the same?  Not by a long shot, BUT comparatively speaking they are when looking at level of play (opponents etc)

Neither one of those are real defensive ends. They are both hybrid players that rush the passer as a specialist in obvious passing situations. Other than that they play flats and are run stoppers in a linebacker role.

Was there a Reason for their departure or do we know where they are going? Did they leave or were they kicked off?

Attrition I would assume, new staff new expectations sometimes people just can't or won't get on board with the new way.

Or it could the opposite! Not doing good in school! Good luck to the kid!

True and we aren't facing the OT's they are.  A 250 lb. DE in CUSA is fine.

Back on topic.  McNair never showed anything, so I won't miss anything.

Sorry but this is a real issue for me.  Every year we see key players leave.  My question is why?  Why does a key player that you needed on the defensive line leave the program?  Did you do everything you could to make it work?  Looks like it's the same story under this new regime as it has been in the past.  Sorry to be negative ned here but winning programs don't see these types of defections.  We lose a guy who was poised for his best year on the defensive line and our top prospect in the last recruiting class for goodness sake.

This news = ?

It's highly likely that these players were unable to meet the demands of the current staff. Beginning with work ethic. One thing people may forget with this flashy offense, is that our head coach was a blue-collar, National Champion team captain Fullback; and in that Littrell and his staff are going to be incredible demanding of requiring a relentless work ethic from the players.
