Oh, looks like the AD is channeling their inner @UNT90

You know what, I am officially over this AD. We put stuff like this out there then every single person sitting on the floor in those 40-50 chairs (my guess was 30 total people) was wearing a different color than black.  Scratch that I think one was.

When your play is very questionable you tend to get the lower rung of officials... Just the way the cookie crumbles.

Yep. Advertise a theme and don't even hold themselves to it. Sounds like the UNT AD in a nutshell.

I was sitting down on the court and there were at least a half dozen people wearing black. The majority were not, but maybe they don't use social media? Either way those people are just as adamant fans as anyone.

We don't have a loss to bitch about and so we choose to complain about our fans?

Apparently there will always be something. The people who sit on the court or show up to every game are the real fans. They do have a right to complain, but usually do not. People who never go and complain are frustrating. I have Ernie and other have negative comments, but at least it's constructive and they still show up.

He's not complaining about the fans. He's pointing out the AD's inability to get the "blackout" memo out effectively.

He literally said in his post "I am officially over this AD."

We beat the two Florida schools.... Good job those wins really in the grand scheme of things change nothing for me. I meant to post this last night before the game was over and forgot. I find it funny that you think I'm ______ about the fans, when in reality I am ________ about the half assed marketing done by the AD. The entire department not just RV, but the people HE is responsible for.  If anything there should have been a separate email (to mean green club members) about this event and try to get backing, pick up the phones (yeah I know our ticket office is "understaffed" poor them.  Give me a break.

I saw an email, FB post, and tweet about the black out.  What more do you think could be done?

So you are good with one tweet, one fb post (judging by the crowds I've seen the last 3-4 games I've been to) they don't use either of those or if they do its to see pictures of their grandchildren. Obviously the measures they took weren't enough, is that ok with you?

Also what email are you referring to? I got nothing from mean green club.

So just how much should the AD dump into a program who's almost at the end of their season with a losing overall and conference record? It just seems like a waste of resources to start cold calling MGC members and people who have previously bought tickets when the outcome of the game really doesn't have much effect on the season.

On the flip side I guess it would give some a reason to complain when we're not doing anything regarding football season tickets?

Wasting resources?? They're paying those people good money put them to work! You aren't seeing the picture. That's ok, funny I don't remember Facebook or Twitter blowing up when I attended the Tech game where the lower bowl was sold out and I had to sit in the upper deck. Seems like a good hire here instead of TB would have made more sense.  Oh well.

Wait it a minute IVE GOT AN IDEA!!! All of our phone numbers should be stored in a database of sorts.  Have TB, Combs, RV, SOMEONE ANYONE, put together a voicemail type recording and send that to everyone's phone number in the database. That takes too many resources though right?

And those people can feasibly only work on one thing at a time. They can't be calling two different people, at the same time, regarding a single basketball game and for season tickets for football. Which is more important ... football season tickets or a single basketball game for a team with a losing record?

I'd think you'd need to be careful with the number of calls one makes to customers otherwise you risk annoying them with too many contact initiations. I'd wager telemarketing has very poor results when trying to get someone to buy something even when you already have established a relationship with the company calling you.

I guess you be fine with a 30 second recorded cold call with Bedford begging you to come to the game and to wear black, cause that is what you'd likely get.

You will note that RV was definitely wearing black...were you and GMG24?  My wife and I were, but, you know, this sort of thing is a suggestion and in no way mandatory.   Instead of a critique on people's game day attire, I prefer to be appreciative that they showed up in person to watch the game and cheer for the Mean Green.

There is no satisfying folks who simply look for something to bitch about. If UNT doesn't try stuff like this, folks bitch they don't do anything.  If they do stuff like this people bitch that they didn't do it correctly.  No win situation....butchers gonna bitch.  It's the nature of their personality I suppose.

You also noted that the Mean Green won, right?  Or, did you and a few others miss that fact while looking dutifully for something to bitch about?  Just wondering.

You were not wearing black either as I observed.  Folks, it is a choice.  Who cares?  At least Andrew showed up.

I never plan on missing a game :)

Hard to make every event with work and having to save for a new house.

I did have a black shirt at some point yesterday. Had a soccer game in the morning and then house work. Changed shirts four times haha

Yep I did note that. Nope, I wasn't there had an engagement party to go to.  I was relaying a message I received finding it funny that this blackout event wasn't even close. Funny other schools try similar stuff with great success. Some are tradition, but you can't tell me the effort levels to make this event work were top notch. That is my point. We do stuff and do it halfway.  I'm sorry that I expect greatness while others are good with mediocrity and piss poor results. But hey, we got some shiny new facilities...Benford is good as gone.  Has he brought some talent sure, but he has driven this program straight into the ground. Thanks TB for taking the one thing I could enjoy about UNT athletics and made it a joke.

Dude, might as well give up. These cats are the biggest defenders of Rick Villarreal and the athletic department outside of Fly. If you dare criticize the one that can't be fired, you will bring their full rath, no matter how valid the criticism may be.

The bigger issue is another crap basketball season by another crap Rick Villarreal hire. But as these guys will tell you, Rick Villarreal certainly shouldn't be held to any kind of standards when hiring coaches.

Thats just crazy talk.

Of all the dumb things on this board, this may be the dumbest.  We won.  I am sure the players were glad to see the crowd that came regardless of whether they were wearing black or not. That is the important thing.  The rest is irrelevant.  There will be no asterisk by the win in the record book saying the blackout was or was not successful.

I am appreciate anyone who just goes to games and the reality of that is disappointing within itself. We are 11-16. We kind of suck. Not nutsack suck, but suck. Flip that record to 16-11 and the last 2 home games of the year would have at least 4 or 5k in attendance. We need an AD in here that can hire coaches that put winning teams together. Until that changes, nothing will. UNT has proven in the past, regardless of what taco cheese has said, that fans will support this program when winning takes place.

This is just dumb pissing up a rope. The players got to wear their black uniforms and, yes, quite a few folks wore black.  Who gives a rat's ass about how many did or did not wear black?  These things take a much more engaged fan base than we have at the moment to be successful.  We are not there yet as a fan base.  Look at the student turnout.  Honestly, it pretty much sucks, and it is the students who lead in this sort of promotion.   A good many students were wearing black, but not nearly enough to make a difference.  But, since those doing the bitching were not in attendance, it does smack of a bit of sour grapes and hypocrisy to jump on those who actually were there and who were wearing black and suggest that because they don't see this as a major "sky is falling" event in spite of the fact that the Mean Green actually won the game that they are doing so only in support of the AD.  Pure crap-ola from folks just looking to find some bogus reason to ignore a nice win and find some new reason to knock the AD.  You guys need to get a life or find something that makes you happy.  This pissing up a rope thing is getting old.

Not there yet as a fan base? We have been quickly going the wrong way the last 4 years. Crowds are down by over half. Paid attendance (students through their fees or regular paying fans and alums) has to be down by much more than half.

RV probably gave enough tickets away to different ISDs this year to eke average attendance over 2k. Maybe not.

Don't say it like this has been a long struggle. It was headed in a great direction with about 4K average JJ's last year.

Then RV made a program killing hire that he refused to fix until the program had been completely destroyed, possibly beyond.

Dont make it sound like UNT is struggling to build something when they are still actively participating in its destruction.
