How valuable are dominant defensive tackles, and what risks will certain colleges assume to get them?

Trey Lealaimatafao was a highly regarded 4 star defensive committed to Texas-Austin coming out of San Antonio in 2014. Prior to signing day he switched his commitment to LSU.

During his one year at LSU he stole a bicycle from a student, punched a female student in the face, punched through a plate window at the athletic facility, and was finally dismissed from the team after he was arrested for robbing a man knocked unconscious outside a campus bar (the assailants may or may not have been with Trey) and then punching the girlfriend of the victim when she tried to stop him during the robbery.

Well, he transfers to Arizona Western.

Arizona, Colorado, and Hawaii all are willing to overlook this gentleman's minor indiscretions and have each extended a scholarship offer.

In the meantime, Trey Lealaimatafao  partnered with Brice Dixon who was recently discarded by USC for "having non-consensual sex" allegedly went on a Thelma and Louise style crime spree across southern California, carjacking a car and committing several additional robberies.

Their attorney reportedly denies their involvement even though they were in the stolen car when caught, still had possession of the stolen items, and were positively identified by the victims. Oh, and they are being investigated for additional crimes by the Ventura County Sherriff's Department.

To quote the wisdom of Marty McFly "You better get used to those bars, kid".

Good luck Arizona, Colorado, and Hawaii. We'll be watching to see which one of you gets your coveted prize.

Great post. And it's the coaches. Nothing matter except winning. But before we completely blame the coaches we have to blame the establishments for making winning THE priority.

This is a guy that we could recruit and keep in a cage under the stadium until game day. Feeding would be slices of raw meat on a stick poked through the bars. On game day, we drop him a uniform and let him loose onto the field.
