My senior year at Plano East (Fall of '88) we were a 4-3 team but in reality we were 4-4 team with Cover 3 behind.  Basically, we dropped the SS safety into the box and it really was more of a 4-2-5 considering our outside backers were so light.  Four shutouts and two plays from having six shutouts.  Of course, that was just barely after the forward pass was legalized in Texas.  I don't think we ever saw three receivers except maybe during the 2 minute offense.

Really enjoying the honest coach talk here.

I still have to tell you to "get a room" or it would look like I was playing favorites

It looks like with the DBs we are signing a 4-2-5 D is what we be playing. In playing this D  what is the line up to the strong side? Strong safety over the TE? Also if we are playing tighter at the line of scrimmage (maybe jamming) does create a better opportunity for blitzing? Help me out coaches! Thanks

On a 4-2-5 doesn't seem like there would be a lot of press coverage? So get ready all you sideline coaches!

Ha nice!  Yes many defenses end up morphing into some hybrid defense.  As long as you have a solid base and can stop the run its all good.

I hate the way we line up to 5 wides.... spin down to the trips side, and have a safety 8x2 to the weak side of the field.... we widen the weak side LB and usually give up big runs if the QB can break contain. or DT's dont get a good push.

Dude we figured a way to stop that.... man up and get after the O.  We also have plenty of speed on the field so able to do that.  We they come out in empty instead of getting confused we now just have a Fire call and CBs, Safeties, and Sam or Willy man up.  Everyone else is GATA

Not a fan of the 10-1, but Celina and Argyle thrive off of it.  It does interest me tho!

I was mostly kidding.... key word mostly.

I can see a place for it every now and then if you have the athletes in the back end to match up.  Make a QB beat you with a difficult throw (pressure in his face) and catch (tight coverage and pressing off the line) opposed to what we do now with 15 yard cushions getting nickeled and dimed down the field. (or worst just flat ran by)

That's the face you'd be making if we could successfully do it!! Screws timing up and causes havoc.
