We have some good friends whose son went to Rice.   He said it was really tough to get in there but once you were admitted there was LOTS of academic help to give you a good chance to get a degree.

Loading up on DBs. We are gonna need some if we are truly planning to run a 4-2-5. These are athletes that can be moved around the field to other positions too.

we also had one of the worst secondary's in the country... if not the worst.

I'll let Littrell spend a couple of scholly's on DB's if we can get 2 that are solid contributors next year... I'm tired of getting beat deep every 5th play

It's a product of two things

1. Throwing Nate Brooks and Ashton Preston out there at corner as freshman. It stings the first year but they get great experience. I think we have something with Preston and Brooks.

2. No pressure up front from the DL.

yes, pressure on qb automatically makes a secondary better without upgrading a single corner or safety etc....

So, if I understand right... We have 9 scholarships to give (and that's assuming Fine gets one right away), and 33 hours until Signing Day?

Why the hell are we offering uncommitted recruits or guys we're trying to flip blueshirt offers? Are we thinking we can redeem unused scholarships for prizes like tickets at Chuck E. Cheese?

And a degree from Rice is pretty special in my book.

Well you could be holding some back for late qualifiers (guys who don't yet have their test scores etc), transfers etc.  Or, it could be that they are near the limit of total scholarships they are able to offer when you factor in signing day, count transfers, mid term transfers etc.  Honestly, it is such a moving target.  I know they said this would be a small class when Littrell was hired.  My thought that was due to very few seniors graduating and them being near the scholarship limit.  Schools are allowed to sign as many as 25 players each year as long as they don't exceed the cap of 85 total team scholarships.  So even though you are allowed to sign 25 at signing day, you may want to keep those numbers down unless you are able to add quality because it puts you closer to the 85 max and doesn't give you much wiggle room if there is a quality late qualifier or transfer that comes available.  Also, the mid-term guts we signed (Henson etc) would count towards your 85.

Or there are a lot more commits than announced.

I thought someone already went through and showed that we can sign up to the max of 25 and still be under the 85 limit.

I said that I counted 60 returning scholarship players still on the roster, meaning we could sign the full25. But there's almost a certainty that those 60 don't remain completely intact between now and fall camp. History says some quit, transfer, etc.
