UAB will hate us.  Both LB Johnson and DT Bain were at one time committed to the Blazers.  Both are 3* so that should move us out of the CUSA recruiting cellar.  UAB will stay #1 because they already have about 30 signees/commits.

Awesome work by Seth & co. I was hoping they'd hit the JuCo rank hard for an instant shot in the arm. They didn't disappoint.

Johnson is listed as a 4 star recruit by 247 an a 3 star by the 247 composite ranking.  When is the last time that we have had a recruit that was rated 4 stars by at least one service at the time of recruitment?  I am not talking about a transfer like Wallace that was rated 4 star back in HS.

It's only one service, but here's our all-time listing of recruits according to them: http://northtexas.247sports.com/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruits

Apparently we have a new #1.

Cam Montgomery was also a 4-star juco according to scout back in 2007. 247 wasn't a thing back then.

I added in some guys they missed, and guys we could could land.. Took us up to 112 and change.. That would put us at 10th, this list you can't add in English or Morris also, so the class is already higher

Augie, Moore, Hamilton, Bain Pirtle, Hayes is who I added, I would attach photo but says its to big

I forgot that Scout gave Cam 4 stars.  He was a solid starting RB until he gave way to Lance.

The 247 rankings do go back well before 2007.

Everything before, I believe, 2012 doesn't have 247's specific rating. If you look next to a player's composite rating there are 4 dots. How ever many of those dots are filled in indicates how many of the 4 major recruiting sites' (Rivals, 247, ESPN, Scout) ratings for that player are factored in to his composite rating. It's basically an average factoring in his rating from all 4 sites.

However, players who came before 247 started will still have a composite score based on their rating from the other sites. 247 wasn't around to rate Riley Dodge in 2008, but ESPN, Scout and Rivals were. So those three ratings are averaged to give him a 247 composite score, even though 247 didn't actually rate him. Which is why there are three filled in circles next to his composite score.

So basically 247 has conveniently archived things well before they existed. And given out composite scores to recruits based on the sites that were around and rated them at the time.

Not at all veering negative on this one, but I'm sure I'll sound boring by saying this, though it has to be said.  With all of the JUCOs we're landing, I hope it is partially due to our reputation as a school that actually EDUCATES and GRADUATES our athletes.  We don't just push you through, and we don't use up your eligibility and then dump you if you aren't finished.  And if that reputation doesn't already precede us, then it should.

We are, statistically and pragmatically, one of the best colleges in the nation when it comes to ensuring that the 99% of our athletes that don't compete professionally are more capable of entering the workforce than are most of our competitors in the collegiate landscape, be they Division I or otherwise.  If this isn't being sold to the JUCO All-Star types, then it should be.  EVERY time.

Our tutoring and other academic services available to assist those who want an education are among the best in the country as well.  If that ever stops being the case, I'll be easy to bribe to come back to help return us to that high level of accomplishment in serving the students who need a bit of an extra boost once in a while.

The scary thing about adding Fall JUCOs is the very real possibility that they don't make it to campus due to eligibility issues.

The scary thing about signing recruits out of high school is you never know if they will transfer within the first year or two, have behavior issues and get dismissed, have eligibility issues and go juco, or just not pan out long term. Recruits are all gambles no matter what. Getting a player to stick around long enough to see the field is already a challenge. If coaches had your mindset, college sports wouldn't exist.

A lot of coaches in established programs do have my mindset, and don't have to gamble on fall JUCOs who have yet to complete their eligibility requirements.

Telling yourself otherwise is just swigging a bunch of green kool aid to make yourself feel better about a challenging situation.

That said, this is a good get for the recruiting situation UNT is in this year. Gives me a glimmer of hope for what will happen Wednesday.
